Scholar-Athletes were recognized and thirty-six individuals were inducted into the inaugural MAC Hall of Fame at the MAC Awards Lunch
MADISON, NJ -- Member schools joined together on Tuesday at FDU-Florham's Hennessy Hall to celebrate the accomplishments of scholar-athletes and officially kickoff the MAC 100, a celebration of 100 years of intercollegiate athletics in the Middle Atlantic Conference.

"The MAC 100 is about more than just the past 100 years - it's about the incredible people who have shaped the conference to what it is today. That was displayed today with the impressive scholar-athletes and individuals inducted into our MAC Hall of Fame," said Ken Andrews, MAC Executive Director.
Promotional MAC 100 items such as t-shirts, uniform patches, temporary tattoos, floor decals, and mugs were displayed and distributed to member schools. The upcoming calendar of MAC 100 events was also announced:

MAC Hall of Fame
The MAC Hall of Fame, an initiative of the MAC 100, is an honor to recognize student-athletes, coaches, administration, faculty, or staff from the Middle Atlantic Conferences who have demonstrated success in athletics, academics, and in the community. Thirty-six individuals (22 athletes and 17 staff/administrators) were inducted into the Inaugural MAC Hall of Fame, representing 25 schools and 13 different sports.
Scholar-Athlete Award
At the end of each athletic season, MAC schools may nominate a senior student-athlete in each sport who has at least a cumulative 3.2 GPA (4.0 scale). The MAC Awards Committee determines the award winners based on athletic achievement (50%) and academic excellence (50%). This year, 22 scholar-athletes were recognized:

Giant Steps Award
Based on the NCAA program, this award is given to a student-athlete who has prevailed over great adversity. This year's award recipient was Vinny Morgan (Albright College, Baseball).
Sportsmanship Award
As presented by the MAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, 2012 marks the tenth year for the sportsmanship awards. This award was created to reward outstanding overall sportsmanship at MAC institutions. The award is voted on by the individual institutions’ coaches. It is presented to a male and female program in the Freedom and Commonwealth Conferences.
