Freedom Offensive Player of the Year Megan Mahoney nets three goals in the first half

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Women’s Soccer) – The No. 13 Misericordia Cougars shut out the DeSales Bulldogs by a score of 3-0 on Saturday to claim their third-straight Freedom Conference Women’s Soccer Title. The Cougars’ Megan Mahoney scored all three goals in the first half.
The Freedom Offensive Player of the Year scored her first goal in the fifth minute to give second-seeded Misericordia (17-2-1) a 1-0 lead. Mahoney’s 17th goal of the season came on a free kick just outside the right side of the box.
Mahoney then scored two goals in a span of 54 seconds. In the 24th minute, Megan Antrim sent a through-ball to Mahoney who faked out the goalkeeper and scored. Moments later, Mahoney netted her 19th goal of the season with a header from Erin McGreal and Alex Gallagher.
DeSales’ (10-6-4) goalkeeper Michelle Churchman face 14 shots and made two saves, while Misericorida’s Maureen Ciccosanti goalkeeper face seven shots and record two saves.
Mahoney was named the Freedom Conference Championship Most Valuable Player.
Misericordia earns the Freedom Conference automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The field will be announced on Monday, No. 10 at 1 p.m. at www.NCAA.com.
