Meghan Wilson Named 2013-14 Giant Steps Award Winner
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Albright junior women’s lacrosse player Meghan Wilson was named the 2013-14 Middle Atlantic Conference Giant Steps Awards Winner. The announcement of the award came at the 2014 MAC Awards Luncheon that was held Tuesday afternoon at Albright College in Reading, PA.
The Middle Atlantic Conference’s Giant Steps Award is based off the Giant Steps Award given out by the NCAA every year. This award is given out to a MAC student-athlete who as prevailed over great adversity.
At the beginning of the 2013-14 school year, Wilson's 21-year old sister was killed in a car accident while returning home from work. Despite this family tragedy, Wilson continued to be the rock of Albright's women's lacrosse team.
A three-year captain, Wilson was named second team All-Commonwealth last week- her third All-Conference honor in three seasons with the Lions.
Wilson has also maintained a 3.2 GPA as a marketing/business major, serves as an Albright ambassador and student blogger, and completed an internship with the Reading Royals professional hockey team.
Wilson started all 17 games for the Lions this spring, ranking third on the team with 17 goals, second with 12 assists and fourth with 29 points.
The junior midfielder also recorded her 100th career goal late this season, in Albright's victory over Hood. She added 31 ground balls, 73 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers.
For her career, Wilson is the program's all-time leader in points with 123 (100 goals, 23 assists), ground balls (106) and draw controls (203).
