Stevenson Captures Fourth-Straight MAC Commonwealth Volleyball Title

The Mustangs’ Annika Schwartz named the MAC Commonwealth Championship MVP

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (Volleyball) –
The top-seeded Stevenson Mustangs defeated the No. 2 Messiah Falcons by a score of 3-1 on Saturday to claim their fourth-straight MAC Commonwealth Volleyball title since joining the conference in 2012. The Mustangs have not lost a conference regular-season or postseason match in four years.
 
Stevenson (28-7) won the first two sets by scores of 25-17, 25-21. Messiah (29-3) rallied back to win the third set by a score of 25-22, but the Mustangs held on in a tightly fought fourth set to win it 25-22 and secure the conference title.
 
Annika Schwartz recorded an impressive match-high 32 kills for 34 points to lead the Mustangs. The sophomore hit .355 in the match and added 17 digs, three blocks and one assist. Schwartz was named the MAC Commonwealth Championship Most Valuable Player.
 
The Mustangs’ Deanna Bradbury recorded 35 digs, while teammate Sara Bollinger recorded 56 assists. Kristen Brooks had 25 digs, and Kara Anderson added 14 digs.
 
The Falcons’ Kristen Douglas and Jane Underman led the team with 15 and 13 kills, respectively. Underman added 21 digs, while Douglas had 20 digs. Brooke Gallagher had 44 assists and 14 digs. Emily Zellers led Messiah with 29 digs, and Danielle Weaver added 14 digs.
 
Stevenson earns the MAC Commonwealth’s automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAA Division III Championship. The field will be announced on Monday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at www.NCAA.com.
