YORK, Pa. (Men’s and Women’s Swimming) – The first day of the 2015 Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championship was completed on Thursday at the Graham Aquatic Center. Widener shattered a 28-year old championship record in the 800-yard freestyle relay to end day one.
Through two events, Albright is on top of the men’s standings with 74 points. Widener is in second with 68 points and Misericordia is in third with 64 points. Hood (60 points) and Messiah (54 points) round out the top-five teams.
Misericordia and Messiah are tied at the top of the women’s standings through two events with 72 points each. Albright sits third with 68 points. Widener (60 points) and Hood (54 points) round of the top-five teams.

Widener won the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay in a championship record time of 6:55.20, beating the previous record of 7:00.07 held by Johns Hopkins since 1987. The Pride’s ‘A’ relay team swam in the following order: Ian Gaynor (So.), Tom Platt (Fr.), Jeffrey Hicks (So.) and Michael Grajek (So.).
Albright’s Rick Sutton (Sr.), Tyler Huizing (Sr.), Ken Richardson (So.) and Alex Bauer (Sr.) took second place in a time of 7:01.43. Their time is fourth-best in MAC Championship History.
Misericordia’s Chris Panagacos (Sr.), Thomas Scott (So.), Joe Grzech (Fr.) and Peter Kolokithias (Sr.) finished in third place in a time of 7:04.04.
Albright won the men’s 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:34.74. The Lions’ ‘A’ relay team swam in the following order: Rick Sutton (Sr.), Ken Richardson (So.), Alex Bauer (Sr.) and Matthew Runtas (Jr.). Their time is the second-best time in MAC Championship history.
Hood’s Chris Gardner (So.), BJ Daisey (So.), Alex Bodine (Sr.) and Dillon Marier (Fr.) took second place in a time of 1:34.83. Their time is third-best in MAC Championship history
Misericordia’s Joe Grzech (Fr.), Thomas Scott (So.), Nick Lucca (Fr.) and Brad Thomas (Sr.) placed third in a time of 1:36.22.
Messiah won the women’s 800-yard freestyle relay in a time of 7:50.14. The Falcons’ ‘A’ relay team swam in the following order: Lauren Clune (Sr.), Emily Reale (So.), Tara Freeman (So.) and Katie Wingert (Fr.). Their time is second-best in MAC Championship history.
Albright’s Codi Herr (Sr.), Gwen Stefan (Sr.), Sam Hand (So.) and Amanda Osterlind (Sr.) took second place in a time of 7:52.84. Their time is third-best in MAC Championship history
Misericordia’s Kerri Ciriello (Jr.), Dana Hallam (Sr.), Rachel Finnegan (Fr.) and Dani Blass (Jr.) finished in third-place in a time of 7:57.24.
Misericordia won the women’s 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:49.02. The Cougars’ ‘A’ relay team swam in the following order: Marissa Gombosi (Fr.), Dani Blass (Jr.), Taylor Grenier (Jr.) and Aryn Zimmerman (Sr.). Their time is third-best in MAC Championship history.
Albright’s Kaitlyn Huizing (Sr.), Julie McNeil (So.), Codi Herr (Sr.) and Gwen Stefan (Sr.) took second place in a time of 1:50.35.
Messiah’s Caitlin Magaw (Jr.), Gaby Brubaker (Jr.), Laura Penwell (Sr.) and Katie Wingert (Fr.) placed third in a time of 1:50.50
