Several MAC Championship records fall, Albright’s Rick Sutton is a four-time 500 freestyle champion

YORK, Pa. (Men’s and Women’s Swimming) –
The second day of the 2015 Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championship is in the books with six events completed. Three men’s MAC Championship records fell, and three individual champions repeated from last season.

During the evening session, the Middle Atlantic Conference swimming family remembered Albright’s Matthew Rein, who tragically passed away last fall. Rein’s mother and father addressed the packed crowd prior to the national anthem for their support over the past five months.

The Albright Lions joined their MAC colleagues along with the fans to pay tribute to Matthew by standing in silence during the first 25 yards of the men’s 400-yard medley relay.

WOMEN’S 400 MEDLEY RELAY
Misericordia won the women’s 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:57.99. The Cougars swam in the following order: Rachel Finnegan (Fr.), Dani Blass (Jr.), Taylor Grenier (Jr.) and Aryn Zimmerman (Sr.).

Widener finished in second in a time of 4:02.72, and Albright came in third with a time of 4:03.63.

MEN’S 400 MEDLEY RELAY
Albright won the men’s 400-yard medley relay in a MAC Championshop record time of 3:27.40. The Lions held the record of 3:27.81 since last championship. Albright swam in the following order: Rick Sutton (Sr.), Ken Richardson (So.), Alex Bauer (Sr.) and Matthew Runtas (Jr.).

Hood finished in second in a time of 3:30.04, and Misericordia took third-place in a time of 3:31.09

WOMEN’S 500 FREESTYLE
Albright’s Amanda Osterlind (Sr.) won the women’s 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:10.05. Messiah’s Emily Reale (So.) finished in second in a time of 5:10.34, while her teammate Lauren Clune (Sr.) took third in a time of 5:16.95.

MEN’S 500 FREESTYLE
Albright’s Rick Sutton (Sr.) won the men’s 500-yard freestyle in a MAC Championship record time of 4:38.35. His old record was 4:38.63. The senior has won gold in the 500-yard freestyle the past four years.

Hood’s Cameron Rogers (So.) finished second, while Arcadia’s Matthew Morano finished in third.

WOMEN’S 200 IM
Messiah’s Katie Wingert (Fr.) won the women’s 200-yard IM in a time of 2:11.27. Arcadia’s Whitney Boeckel (Sr.) finished second in a time of 2:12.04, and Widener’s Erin Neugebauer (Jr.) finished third in a time of 2:13.36.

MEN’S 200 IM
Arcadia’s Timothy Graham won the men’s 200-yard IM in a time of 1:56.10. Misericordia’s Thomas Scott finished second in a time of 1:56.14, and Albright’s Ken Richardson (So.) took third in a time of 1:56.45.

WOMEN’S 50 FREESTYLE
Messiah’s Tara Freeman (So.) repeated as the women’s 50-yard freestyle champion with a time of 24.42 seconds. Misericordia’s Morgan Hanadel (Fr.) and Widener’s Christine Kunzler (Fr.) tied for second as both hit the board at 24.77 seconds.

MEN’S 50 FREESTYLE
Widener’s Ian Gaynor (So.) won the men’s 50-yard freestyle for a second-straight year. The sophomore finished the final and the preliminary in first place in 20.49 seconds. He set the MAC Championship record this morning and then tied it this evening.

Albright’s Alex Bauer (Sr.) took second place in a time of 21.00 seconds, and teammate Matthew Runtas finished this in a time of 21.31 seconds.
