YORK, Pa. (Women’s Swimming) – On the final day of the 2015 Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championship, the Messiah Falcons were once again crowned the conference champions. The Falcons collected 628 points to win their second-straight conference title.
Misericordia’s junior Dani Blass was named the 2015 David B. Eavenson Award as the MAC women’s swimmer of the year. Blass scored 60 points with three individual wins, including three MAC Championship records and two NCAA provisional times. The junior won the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard IM. Blass was also the 2013 MAC Rookie of the Year.
Messiah’s Katie Wingert was named the 2015 MAC Women’s Swimming Rookie of the Year. Wingert finished third in the women’s individual standings with 57 points. The freshman won the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard freestyle.
Messiah’s head coach Nancy Luley was named the 2015 MAC Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year. It is Luley’s second-straight conference coach of the year award.
1,650 FREESTYLE
Messiah’s Emily Reale (So.) repeated as the women’s 1,650-yard freestyle champion in MAC Championship record time of 17:42.72. Her time was six seconds faster than the previous record (17:48.22) set by Gettysburg’s Lynne Cassidy in 1991.
Albright’s Amanda Osterlind (Sr.) finished in second place with a time of 17:47.80—also faster than the previous record. Messiah’s Lauren Clune (Sr.) finished in third place in a time of 18:01.36.
200 BACKSTROKE
Arcadia’s Whitney Boeckel (Sr.) won the women’s 200-yard backstroke title in a time of 2:08.65. Widener’s Anne Walker (Jr.) finished second in a time of 2:12.67, and Hood’s Caitlin Fay (Jr.) took third in a time of 2:13.11.
100 FREESTYLE
Albright’s Codi Herr (Sr.) won the women’s 100-yard freestyle for the second-straight year with a time of 52.20 seconds. Her time was .06 seconds shy of an NCAA provisional cut. Messiah’s Katie Wingert (Fr.) took second in a time of 52.63 seconds, while teammate Tara Freeman (So.) was third in a time of 53.91.
200 BREASTSTROKE
Misericordia’s Dani Blass (Jr.) won the women’s 200-yard breaststroke for the second-straight year. Her time of 2.22.49 is a MAC Championship record and an NCAA provisional time. Widener’s Eric Neugebauer (Jr.) was second in a time of 2:29.43, and Messiah’s Anna McArdle (Jr.) was third in a time of 2:33.40.
200 BUTTERFLY
Albright’s Codi Herr (Sr.) won the women’s 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:09.46. Hood’s Lauren Fogarty (Jr.) was second in a time of 2:10.54, and King’s Macawley Brown was third in a time of 2:11.15.
400 FREESTYLE RELAY
Messiah won the women’s 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:34.17. The Falcons swam in the following order: Tara Freeman (So.), Anna McArdle (Jr.), Emily Reale (So.) and Katie Wingert (Fr.). Misericordia finished in second in a time of 3:34.29, and Hood took third in a time of 3:42.87.
