YORK, Pa. (Baseball) –
The No. 6 Misericordia Cougars won their opening NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional game against No. 3 Johns Hopkins by a score of 6-4.

Misericordia (30-11) scored two runs on one hit in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 early lead. The Cougars stranded one runner on second base.

Johns Hopkins (27-12-1) cut the deficit in the bottom half of the third inning with one run on three hits. The Blue Jays then tied the game at 2-2 with one run on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Cougars regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning at 3-2, but Johns Hopkins evened the score with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning.

Misericordia scored on wild pitch in the top of the six to take 4-3 lead. Then Johns Hopkins tied it for a third time in the bottom half of the inning on a blooper to right field with a runner on third base.

The Cougars then scored two runs on one hit top of the seventh to take the eventual 6-4 win.

Misericorida’s D.J. Navoczynski led the team going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Alec Iurato drove in one RBI and scored once. Chris Boroch and Kyle Lindsay both had two runs scored each.

The Cougars’ Ryan Dorosh went eight innings with 116 pitches to earn his seventh victory of the season. He is 7-0 on the season.

Johns Hopkins’ Mike Weaver went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Brian Lin went 3-for-5 with one run scored.

The Blue Jays will now play in Game 6 Thursday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. against the loser between No. 7 Catholic and No. 2 Alvernia.

Misericordia will play in Game 8 Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m. against the winner between No. 7 Catholic and No. 2 Alvernia.
