No. 4 Salisbury Tops No. 5 Mitchell, 11-1, to Open Regional Tournament

YORK, Pa. (Baseball)
– The No. 4 Salisbury Sea Gulls scored early and often in the first game of the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional at Santander Stadium to defeat the No. 5 Mitchell Mariners 11-1.

Salisbury (30-4-1) opened with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. The Sea Gulls added two more runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning to extend their lead to 6-0.

Mitchell (32-6) got on the board in the bottom of the third inning with one run on two hits.

The Sea Gulls then pulled away with two more runs in the fourth, and three runs in the sixth for their eventual 11-1 victory. Salisbury collected 15 hits, while Mitchel had five hits and five errors.

Pete Grasso went 2-for-6 with a double, triple, one run scored and three RBIs to lead the Sea Gulls. Kyle Hayman went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Jordan Gowe and Danny Breen both went 2-for-4 at the dish.

Salisbury’s Brett Collacchi went eight innings with 121 pitches. Collacchi struck out 10 batters and walked just one, while allowing just five hits. The Mariners’ lone run was unearned.

Mitchell will now play in Game 5 Thursday morning at 10 a.m. against the loser between No. 8 Penn State-Berks and No. 1 Kean.

Salisbury will play in Game 7 Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. against the winner between No. 8 Penn State-berks and No. 1 Kean.
