YORK, Pa. (Baseball) –
The No. 1 Salisbury Sea Gulls defeated the No. 8 Penn State-Berks Nittany Lions, 16-5, in the winner’s bracket of the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional on Thursday at Santander Stadium.

Salisbury (31-4-1) got on the board in the top of the third inning with a two-out RBI triple by Pete Grasso to take a 1-0 lead. The Sea Gulls extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning with two outs. With bases loaded, Kyle Goodwin drove in two with a double for a 3-0 lead.

The Sea Gulls’ Danny Breen hit a three-run home run over the 38-foot wall in the top of the fifth. Salisbury added four runs on four hits in the inning for a 7-0 lead.

Penn State-Berks (21-18-1) scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 7-2.

In the sixth inning, Breen crushed another ball that went high off the left field wall for a two-RBI double. Salisbury added one more run in the inning for a 10-2 lead.

The Sea Gulls added a run in the seventh and five runs in the eighth for a 16-2 lead. 

PSU-Berks scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the eighth to cut the Sea Gulls’ lead to the eventual 16-5 final score.

Breen finished the game going 4-for-5 with a walk, five RBIs, three runs scored, a double and a three-run home run. Grasso finished going 2-for-5 with a walks, double, triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

The Nittany Lions will now play in Game 9 Friday at 10 a.m. against No. 3 Johns Hopkins in an elimination game.

Salisbury will face the winner of the No. 2 Alvernia / No. 6 Misericordia game on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the winner’s bracket.
