YORK, Pa. (Baseball) – The No. 3 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays advanced on day three of the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional by eliminating No. 8 Penn State-Berks by a score of 10-1. The Blue Jays will advance in the loser’s bracket to Friday evening’s Game 12 at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Johns Hopkins (29-12-1) opens the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with three runs on four hits for a 3-0 lead. The Blue Jays added three more runs on four more hits in the bottom of the third to increase their lead to 6-0.
The Blue Jays scored one run in the fourth and sixth innings to push their lead to 8-0.
Penn State-Berks (21-19-1) scored one run in the top of the seventh inning, but stranded three runners, to cut to the deficit to 8-1.
Johns Hopkins added two more runs in the seventh for its eventual 10-1 victory. The Blue Jays’ collected 17 hits today and now have 52 total hits through three games player at the regional.
The Blue Jays’ Craig Hoelzer went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Conor Reynolds was 4-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. Thomas Mee went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Johns Hopkins’ Trevor Williams went six and two-thirds to earn the victory. He allowed just one earned run and struck out three batters on 81 pitches.
The Blue Jays will now play in Game 12 Friday evening at 7:45 p.m. against the winner of the No. 6 Misericordia / No. 1 Kean game.
