Lycoming Wins First MAC Commonwealth Title

The Warriors’ sophomore forward Chris Wallace was named MVP

GLENSIDE, Pa. (Men’s Basketball) – The fifth-seeded Lycoming Warriors defeated third-seeded Arcadia Knights, 78-73, to claim their first MAC Commonwealth men’s basketball title. The Warriors won two conference titles while they were part of the MAC Freedom. Lycoming punched its ticket to the NCAA Division III Championship.
 
Lycoming (19-9) took a 16-point lead, 42-26, into halftime of the title game. Arcadia (18-10) outscored the Warriors in the second half, 47-36, but Lycoming was able to hold on for the 78-73 victory.
 
The Warriors’ Alex Newbold scored a game-high 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. Lycoming had four other players score in double figures including Chris Wallace (16), T.J. Duckett (15), Nykolas King (12) and David Johnson (10).
 
Arcadia’s Kyle Reilly scored a team-high 16 points. Three more Knights scored in double figures including Ryan Kelley (14), John Landro (11) and Alex Cohen (11).

Lycoming’s Wallace was named the 2015-16 MAC Commonwealth Championship Most Valuable Player.
