Albright Wins First MAC Commonwealth Title

The Lions’ sophomore guard Nina Mazzarelli was named MVP

READING, Pa. (Women’s Basketball) – The top-seeded Albright Lions defeated second-seeded Messiah Falcons, 69-58, to claim their first-ever MAC Commonwealth women’s basketball title. The Lions punched their ticket to the NCAA Division III Championship.
 
Albright (24-2) led Messiah (19-7) at the half by a score of 40-32. The Falcons outscored the Lions in the third quarter by a 17-9 margin, but Albright pulled away with a 20-9 advantage in the fourth quarter for the 69-58 victory.
 
The Lions’ Nina Mazzarelli and Emily O’Donnell each scored a team-high 14 points. Kelecia Harris recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Shannon Thomas (12 points) and Jane Joyce (10 points) both scored in double-figures.
 
The Falcons had three players score in double figures including Kaitlyn Hoff (18), Dominique Seamon (13) and Jen Fairbanks (11).

Albright’s Mazzarelli was named the 2015-16 MAC Commonwealth Championship Most Valuable Player.
