Stevenson, Eastern Lead Men’s Golf Championships Through Day One

The Mustangs have 20 stroke lead over MAC Commonwealth field; The Eagles have 13 stroke lead over MAC Freedom field

HERSHEY, Pa. (Men’s Golf) –
The first day of the 2016 MAC Commonwealth and MAC Freedom Men’s Golf Championships concluded Saturday at the Hershey East course at the Hershey Country Club. The Stevenson Mustangs shot a 312 for a 20 stroke lead in the MAC Commonwealth. The Eastern Eagles shot a 318 for a 13 stroke lead in the MAC Freedom.
 
MAC COMMONWEALTH
Stevenson shot a 312 (+28) on day one to take a 20-stroke lead over Lebanon Valley, who finished with a team score of 332 (+48). Alvernia and Hood are currently tied for third with a score of 342 (+58). Messiah, last year’s champion, is in fifth with a round of 344 (+60). Arcadia and Widener are tied for sixth with a score of 356 (+72). Albright is eight (367 / +83) and Lycoming is ninth (379 / +95).
 
Stevenson’s Luke McKeogh leads all golfers with a plus-four 75, while teammate Austin Fuglestad is in second with a round of 77. Three golfers are tied for third with a round of 78, including Alvernia’s Brett Fernandes, Messiah’s Jordan Kirsch and Stevenson’s Zack Potten. Lebanon Valley’s David Herbst, Albright’s Samuel Ignatuk and Lycoming Zach Layser are tied for sixth after a round of 80. Lebanon Valley’s Aaron Brown, Stevenson’s Matthew Daryman and Alvernia’s Keith Noonan are tied for ninth with a round of 82.
 
 
MAC FREEDOM
Eastern shot a 318 (+34) on day one to take a 13-stroke lead over Manhattanville, who finished with a team score of 331 (+47). King’s, last year’s champion, is third with a round of 333 (+49). FDU-Florham (335 / +51) and DeSales (337 / +53) rounded out the top five. Misericordia (340 / +56), Wilkes (352 / +68) and Delaware Valley (353 / +69) finished in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
 
Eastern’s Matt Cocorikis is leading the field with a plus-six 77, while teammate Andrew Barin, DeSales’ Dan McDonald and King’s Corey Palma are tied for second with a round of 78. Misericordia’s Tyler McGarry is in fifth after a round of 80. Eastern’s Ryan Torresin is in sixth with a round of 82. Four golfers are tied for seventh after a round of 82, including FDU-Florham’s Ryan Maslen, Manhattanville’s Joseph Mullarkey and Bryan Platt, and Eastern’s Sal Tortora.
