Stevenson Claims Second MAC Commonwealth Men’s Golf Title

Messiah’s Jordan Kirsch wins individual title in three-hole playoff

HERSHEY, Pa. (Men’s Golf) –
The Stevenson Mustangs won their second MAC Commonwealth men’s golf title, first since 2013, on Sunday at the Hershey Country Club. Messiah’s Jordan Kirsch won the conference individual title and was named MAC Commonwealth Golfer of the Year.
 
Stevenson’s Chris Ramer was named the MAC Commonwealth Coach of the year. Stevenson’s Luke McKeogh and Zack Potten were named MAC Commonwealth Rookies of the Year.
 
It took a three-hole playoff to decide the individual champion. Five golfers, including Kirsch, McKeogh, Potten, Alvernia’s Brett Fernandes and Albright’s Samuel Ignatuk tied with a two round score of 157 (+15). After one playoff hole, the 18th, Kirsch and Fernandes advanced to a second playoff hole with birdies. It took a third try at the 18th for Kirsch to outlast Fernadnes for the title. The five golfers that tied with 157 were named to the All-MAC Commonwealth First Team.
 
Stevenson’s Austin Fuglestad and Lebanon Valley’s David Herbst tied for second with a two-round score of 158. Lycoming’s Zach Layser and Alvernia’s Keith Noonan tied for eighth with a score of 160. Lebanon Valley’s Aaron Brown and Messiah’s Nate Haney tied for 10th with a score of 162. The six golfers were named to the All-MAC Commonwealth Second Team.
 
Stevenson claimed the team title with a two-round score of 634 (312-322) to defeat Lebanon Valley (644) by ten strokes. The Dutchmen shot a day-two low score of 312. Hood finished third with a score of 667, while Alvernia (677) and Messiah (679) rounded out the top-5 respectively.  Albright finished sixth with a score of 706, while Widener (714), Arcadia (720) and Lycoming (760) finished out the team scoring.
