DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference announced Fairleigh Dickinson University-College at Florham’s Associate Athletic Director Roger Kindel as the 2016 recipient of the Lou Sorrentino Award on Tuesday at the 16th annual MAC Awards Luncheon at Delaware Valley University.

Named for the long-time former Lebanon Valley athletics administrator, the Lou Sorrentino Award is presented to the Middle Atlantic Conference athletics administrator who has had a sustained and influential role in conference and national affairs and embodies the NCAA Division III philosophy.

Sorrentino served Lebanon Valley College as a student-athlete, coach and athletic director for nearly 60 years from 1950 until his passing in November of 2010.

Kindel joined the FDU-Florham family in 1977 when he took over as the Devils’ head men’s basketball coach. The venerable Kindel won 334 games over his 28 seasons at the helm and led the program to its only two NCAA Tournament appearances

Additionally, he has headed the FDU-Florham golf program for 26 years and guided it to four NCAA Tournament berths.
Kindel has been an integral part of the athletic department as an advisor and advocate for each of the University’s 19 athletic teams.

“Roger’s presence was essential in growing our program to what it is today. Our collaboration with Roger has not only been beneficial to the athletic department but to our student-athletes as well,” said Bill Klika, FDU-Florham Athletic Director. “His presence as men’s basketball coach and later as men’s golf coach has raised the profile of both our University and the Middle Atlantic Conference.”

In addition to his coaching and work as an administrator, Kindel has served as a contributor to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), the NCAA Men’s Golf Committee and the FDU-Florham Athletics Division III Hall of Fame.

Kindel is a graduate of Seton Hall University, where he was a member of the team’s men’s basketball team and still ranks in the top 10 for single-season assists.
