READING, Pa. (Outdoor Track & Field) – The second day of the 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships were completed despite a rainy day. Twelve more individual titles, six men and six women, were claimed on Friday.
Through eight events scored, Misericordia is atop the women’s standings with 64 points. Messiah is just two points behind the Cougars in the women’s standings with 62 points. DeSales and Lebanon Valley are currently tied for third with 33 points each, and Widener is fifth with 29 points.
Widener sits atop the men’s standings through eight scored events with 82 points. Lebanon Valley is second with 53 points, while Messiah is right behind the Dutchmen with 52.5 points for third. DeSales is fourth with 46.5 points, and Stevenson is fifth with 28 points.
Women’s 3,000-meter Steeplechase
Eastern’s freshman Kierra Zack claimed eastern first-ever conference outdoor track individual title finishing first in the steeplechase in a time of 11:29.98. Eastern is in its inaugural season of track & field. Messiah’s sophomore Natalie Ross finished second in a time of 11:35.59, and DeSales’ senior Abby Labar was third in a time of 11:40.07.
Men’s 3,000-meter Steeplechase
Messiah’s senior Jared Schatz won gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second-straight year. This year, Schatz crossed the finish line in a time of 9:37.39. He said the championship record a season ago with a time of 9:09.11. Messiah’s freshman Benjamin Schott finished in second with a time of 9:47.37, and Misericordia’s sophomore Zachary Moody took third in a time of 9:54.92.
Women’s High Jump
Lebanon Valley’s junior Olivia Jendrzejewski won gold with a mark of 1.65 meters. Misericordia’s freshman Reilly Wagner and Alvernia’s freshman Sara Gray finished runner-up with a mark of 1.59 meters.
Men’s High Jump
Stevenson’s freshman Tevin Bailey won the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters. Lebanon Valley’s Randy Harris finished runner-up also with a distance of 1.88 meters, while DeSales’ junior Christopher Lisi and Misericordia’s freshman Olutobi Olugbenga took third with a distance of 1.78 meters.
Women’s Long Jump
Misericordia’s freshman Oniesha Clarke won gold with a distance of 5.37 meters. Lebanon Valley’s freshman Jessica Olewine took silver with a mark of 5.36 meters, and Widener’s freshman Valerie McLaughlin too bronze with a distance of 5.34 meters.
Men’s Long Jump
Delaware Valley’s sophomore Ta’riq Thomas won gold with a mark of 6.90 meters. Widener’s Ameer Sorrell took silver with a mark of 6.57 meters, and teammate Josh Colley took bronze with a mark of 6.55 meters. Colley won the 2015 title, while Sorrell won the 2014 title.
Women’s Hammer Throw
Misericordia’s senior Sarah Wigg won gold with a mark of 43.77 meters. DeSales’ senior Megan Warner took silver with a distance of 41.85 meters, and Stevenson’s freshman Ariana Engerman took bronze with a mark of 37.73 meters.
Men’s Hammer Throw
Widener’s senior Thomas Zamorski won gold in the hammer throw with a mark of 57.76 meters. DeSales’ senior Rob Lawler took silver with a distance of 50.06 meters, and Widener’s sophomore Jabari Mani placed third with a mark of 46.95 meters. Widener has claimed the six-straight titles in the men’s hammer throw.
Women’s Shot Put
Alvernia’s sophomore Tyra Roberts won the shot put with a distance of 12.78 meters. King’s freshman Jillian Korgeski took silver with a mark of 12.42 meters, and Messiah’s freshman Alecia Rohrer took third with a distance of 11.79 meters.
Men’s Shot Put
DeSales’ senior Rob Lawler won gold with a mark of 14.75 meters. Widener’s junior Dan Herbster took silver with a distance of 14.53 meters, and Lebanon Valley’s senior Noe Aguilar-Gonzalez won bronze with a mark of 14.00 meters.
Women’s Heptathlon
Messiah’s junior Rebecca Querfeld won gold in the heptathlon for a second-straight year with 3,847 points. Querfeld won three of the seven events, including the 100-meter hurdles, shot put and javelin throw. Hood’s sophomore Jacqueline Mangogna took silver with 3,531 points, and Widener’s sophomore Samantha DeCapua took bronze with 3,332 points.
Men’s Decathlon
Lebanon Valley’s freshman Blake Lutz won gold with 5,520 points. Lutz won four of the 10 events including the 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles and shot put. Messiah’s sophomore Aaron Gray took silver with 5,212 points, and Messiah’s sophomore Matthew Kline took bronze with 5,118 points.
