2017 MAC Men’s Tennis Individual Championship Set for Weekend

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Men’s Tennis) –
The 2017 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men’s Tennis Individual Championship is set for this weekend, Oct. 21-22. King’s College and Wilkes University will host this year’s championship at Kirby Park and Wilkes University courts in Wilkes-Barre.
 
Action is set to get underway on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. However, if there is a weather concern for the weekend in Wilkes-Barre, action could begin on Friday, Oct. 20. Any schedule changes will be announced Thursday evening after the coaches’ pre-championship meeting around 8 p.m. (Full Schedule of Events)
 
Admission to the 2017 MAC Men’s Tennis Individual Championship is free and parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Ralston Field Complex. A limited amount of white long-sleeve t-shirts will be for sale on site for $18 each. The shirts are made of 100% polyester interlock with moister-wick and UVA performance protection. The Wilkes Colonels won six of the seven singles flights and all four doubles flights at the 2016 MAC Men’s Individual Championship. King’s Tyler Millan won the No. 3 singles flight and returns this season for his sophomore season. The Colonels return four of six singles champions, including Courtney Murphy, Artyom Nabokin, Jonathan White and Chris Madertiz. Wilkes also two of its four doubles champion duos from a season ago.
 
Wilkes leads the conference with 35 all-time singles champions and 21 all-time doubles champions at the conference individual championship.
 
Seeding and brackets for this year’s tournament will be posted on the championship central page after the coaches’ pre-championship meeting around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19.

NOTE: The 2018 MAC Men’s Individual Tennis Championship will increase to 16 squads with the addition of the Manhattanville Valiants. The Valiants welcome back tennis in 2018-19.  Manhattanville dropped the sport after the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year.
