No. 2 Shenandoah Defeats No. 7 SUNY Maritime, 5-3, in Game 4 of Mid-Atlantic Regional

YORK, Pa. (Baseball) – The second-seeded Shenandoah Hornets defeated the seventh-seeded SUNY Maritime Privateers, 5-3, in game four of the 2017 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional at PeoplesBank Park in York.
SUNY Maritime (26-12) ended the scoreless drought in the top of the third inning. Tommy Buckman opened the inning with a leadoff triple, and then scored on a fielder’s choice, beating the throw at home plate. An RBI-single by Phil Russo push the Privateers lead to 2-0.
Shenandoah (37-8) added two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 2-2. Tristan Baker knocked an RBI-single to left field, and then a wild pitch brought the second run home.
The Privateers and the Hornets both added a run in the fifth inning to be tied 3-3 heading into the sixth.
SUNY Maritime had bases loaded with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Shenandoah was able to get out of the inning on a pop-fly.
The Hornets broke the tie in the bottom of the seventh with one run on two hits for a 4-3 lead, and then added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth for a 5-3 lead and eventual win.
The Privateers loaded the bases in the top of the ninth with no outs, but were unable to score a run.
Shenandoah advances to the winner’s bracket and will face No. 3 Wheaton (Mass.) on Friday at 7:45 p.m.
SUNY Maritime falls to the loser’s bracket and will face No. 6 Elizabethtown on Friday at 1:15 p.m.
