YORK, Pa. (Baseball) – The third-seeded Wheaton (Mass.) Lyons shut out the second-seeded Shenandoah Hornets, 6-0, in game eight of the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday night at PeoplesBank Park.
The Lyons’ Trevor Marques earned the win with the nine-inning complete-game four-hit shutout. Marques struck out nine batters, while walking just four. He threw 120 pitches over the nine innings.
Wheaton (25-14) got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning when Zach Goodwin-Boyd scored on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lyons added a run in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 2-0. Goodwin-Boyd hit an RBI-double up the middle.
Wheaton got a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to push its lead to the eventual final score of 6-0.
Shenandoah (37-9) had just four hits in the loss. The Hornets’ Michael Bugonowicz suffered the loss, while striking out eight batters over 7-and-2/3 innings of work.
Wheaton will face No. 1 Johns Hopkins on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Shenandoah will face No. 8 Lesley on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. in an elimination game.
