YORK, Pa. (Baseball) – The second-seeded Shenandoah Hornets responded after Friday’s loss with a 4-1 victory over the eighth-seeded Lesley Lynx on Saturday at PeolplesBank Park. The Lynx were eliminated from the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional. The Hornets will play again at 7:45 p.m.
Shenandoah’s Gerard DePhillips pitched a complete-game on 110 pitches. DePhillips allowed just one run and seven hits, while striking out six batters.
Four-straight singles by Shenandoah (38-9) in the bottom of the first inning led to the Hornets’ early 2-0 lead. Jake Loew and Luke Nussman both drove in an RBI.
Lelsey (22-19-1) got on the board in the top of the third inning. Vincent Taliercio hit an RBI-single to left field.
The Hornets added a run in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Nick Goode to lead 3-1.
Two innings later, Shenandoah added a run in the fifth on an RBI-single by Abel Arocho for a 4-1 lead and the eventual winning score.
Shenandoah will face No. 5 Alvernia at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. The game is an elimination game.
