YORK, Pa. (Baseball) – The No. 2 Shenandoah Hornets scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the No. 1 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, 4-2, on Sunday at PeoplesBank Park. The Hornets advance to the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional championship round to face No. 3 Wheaton (Mass.).
Shenandoah (40-9) tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Luke Nussman hit and RBI-single through the right side with two outs to knot the score at 2-2. And then Shenandoah regained the lead.
Dylan Stouffer continued the two-out magic with a two-RBI double to left center to give Shenandoah a 4-2 lead and eventual win.
The Hornets took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Tristan Baker led off the bottom half of the inning with a double down the left-field line. The Hornets took advantage of a throwing error that advanced Baker home from third base.
Johns Hopkins’(38-8) Ryan Orgielewicz blasted a two-run shot over the “Arch Nemesis”, the 37’-8” left-field wall, to give the Blue Jays’ their first lead of the game, 2-1, in the top of the sixth inning. It was Orgielewicz’s third home run of the regional.
Shenandoah advances to the regional championship round and will face No. 3 Wheaton at 3:30 p.m. The Hornets will have to beat the Lyons twice in order to claim the title, while Wheaton can claim the title with a win.
