BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Indoor Track & Field) – The first day of the 2018 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Indoor Track & Field Championship were completed Friday at Lehigh University’s Rauch Fieldhouse. The women completed six events, while the men completed five events.
There were two conference championship records broken on day one. Delaware Valley’s Ta’riq Thomas broke the men’s long jump championship mark, and Misericordia men’s 4x200 relay broke the championship record time.

MEN’S RESULTS
5,000-Meter Run
Widener’s Will McDermott won gold with a time of 14:53.21, just off the MAC Championship record (14:51.67) set by Widener’s Frank McGovern in 1992. The Pride’s Frank Livolsi took silver with a time of 14:54.88, and Messiah’s Benjamin Schott took bronze with a time of 15:01.21.
Distance Medley Relay (DMR)
Messiah’s Tyler McFeaters, Derrick Peterson, Matthew Royer and Alex Scheib won gold with a time of 10:29.61. Stevenson’s Iddrisss Iddriss, Vladhimir Theophile, Sean Dodson and Sam Mercoli took silver with a time of 10:34.52, and Misericordia’s Sean Luzzi, Nico Araneta, Nicholas Mallory and Eric Deignan won bronze with a time of 10:35.19.
4x200-Meter Relay
Misericorida’s Michael Dube, Olutobi Olugbenga, John Daddario and Juwan Petties-Jackson won gold with a new MAC Championship record time of 1:30.95. The previous championship record time of 1:31.08 was set by Moravian in 2005. Stevenson’s Dereck Davis, Matt Riggins, Kendall Belser and Vladhimir Theopile took silver with a time of 1:32.06. Widener’s Nate Sites, Matthew Ludlow, Jacob Crane and Josh Tupper won bronze with a time of 1:32.12.
Weight Throw
King’s Tyler Maxwell won gold with a distance of 17.48 meters. DeSales’ Chris Brinkman won silver with a mark of 16.16 meters, and Widener’s Dan Whalen took bronze with a mark of 15.80 meters.
Long Jump
Delaware Valley’s Ta’riq Thomas won gold with a new MAC Championship record mark of 7.28 meters. The previous championship record distance of 7.25 meters was set by Widener’s Josh Colley (2015) and Widener’s Gregg Barrett (1993). Stevenson’s Dimeon Wright took silver with a distance of 7.13 meters, and Delaware Valley’s John Jones won bronze with a mark of 6.95 meters.
Heptathlon (through four events)
Through four events, Stevenson’s Ritchie Case is in first place with 2,588 points. Messiah’s Aaron Gray is in second place with 2,456 points, Lebanon Valley’s Brandon McMinn is in third place with 2,336 points, Messiah’s Caleb Puleo is in fourth place with 2,298 points and Stevenson’s Cooper Smelski rounds out the top-five with 2,185 points.
60-Meter Hurdles (prelims)
Only eight runners are competing for the men’s 60-meter hurdles gold, so there were no preliminary races. Competing in Saturday’s final will be (in respective order with seed times): Messiah’s Aaron Gray (8.70), Messiah’s Donnell McNair (8.82), Albright’s Vernon Taylor (8.90), Widener’s Davon Bess (9.02), Albright’s Jonathan Bieber (9.06), Misericordia’s Wesley Hill (914), King’s Matt Marsh (9.30) and Messiah’s Michael Williams (9.62).
60-Meter Dash (prelims)
Earning a spot in Saturday’s final were (in respective order): Stevenson’s Matt Riggins (7.01), Misericordia’s Juwan Petties-Jackson (7.01), Stevenson’s Kendall Belser (7.04), Stevenson’s Dereck Davis (7.04), Stevenson’s Malcolm Hayward (7.04), Delaware Valley’s John Jones (7.12), Stevenson’s Aaron Holliday (7.13) and Stevenson’s Morgan Cheatham (7.16).
WOMEN’S RESULTS
5,000-Meter Run
Misericordia swept the medals in the women’s 5,000-meter run. Clare Schoen won gold with a time of 18:11.82. Emma Federinko took silver with a time of 18:56.13, and Meredith Hartz won bronze with a time of 19:02.58.
Distance Medley Relay (DMR)
Eastern’s Megan Bernotas, Katelyn Bernotas, Elainah Boyles and Kierra Zack won gold with a time of 12:44.99. Messiah’s Kayla Miller, Rebecca Crosley, Aja Cunningham and Mikayla Lewin took silver with a time of 12:56.87, and Lebanon Valley’s Sarah Grow, Rebecca Ford, Keri Jones and Kate Mowrey took bronze with a time of 12:56.97.
4x200-Meter Relay
Misericordia’s Reilly Wagner, Madison Hart, Caitlin Henneforth and Melanie Fry won gold with a time of 1:46.94. Widener’s Alaina Johnson, Kaylynne Timmons, Alejandra Borbolla Diaz and Danielle Peton won silver with a time of 1:47.38. Stevenson’s Kimberly Hammond, Shayri Perz, Dyonne Hicks and Rachel Panek won bronze with a time of 1:47.93.
Weight Throw
Stevenson’s Allison Bishop won gold with a mark of 15.58 meters. Widener’s Allison Reuter took silver with a distance of 15.50 meters, and the Mustangs’ Lauren Dioses took bronze with a mark of 15.17 meters.
Pole Vault
Messiah’s Megan Renes won gold with a mark of 3.15 meters for the second-straight year. Lebanon Valley’s Olivia Faloon also cleared a height of 3.15 meters but made it on her third attempt to get silver. Renes cleared the mark on her second attempt. Widener’s Hailey Welchans took bronze with a mark of 3.00 meters.
Long Jump
Misericordia’s Reilly Wagner won gold with a mark of 5.58 meters. Stevenson’s Kimberly Hammond took silver with a mark of 5.43 meters, and Dyonne Hicks won bronze with a distance of 5.28 meters.
