Emily Gilbert, Alvernia Both Capture Second Conference Titles

Emily Gilbert led the Golden Wolves to their second team title en route to her second-straight individual title

HERSHEY, Pa. (Women’s Golf) –
The Alvernia Golden Wolves captured their second Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Women’s Golf Championship on Sunday at the Hershey Country Club East Course. The Golden Wolves’ junior Emily Gilbert also captured her second-straight MAC women’s golf individual title.
 
Alvernia won the eighth annual MAC Women’s Golf title for its second all-time. The Golden Wolves also won the 2012 title. Alvernia finished with a two-day team score of 737 (+169) to defeat second-place Eastern who finished with a 753 (+185) team score. The Eagles, who won the 2017 title, leaped over Stevenson after sitting in third through the first round.

Stevenson finished third in the team standings with a 766 (+198). Arcadia (821) and Manhattanville (870) rounded out the top-five. Also finishing in the team standings were Lebanon Valley (906), FDU-Florham (921) and Misericordia (950).

Alvernia junior Emily Gilbert was named the 2018 MAC Women’s Golfer of the Year.
 
Gilbert claimed her second-straight individual with a two-day score of 164 (+22), which was three strokes off her 2017 title score of 161 (+19). The junior finished the second day with a low-round 85 (+14). Gilbert was named the 2018 MAC Women’s Golfer of the Year and to the All-MAC First Team.
 
The Golden Wolves Cayla McCarty finished runner-up with a two-day score of 172 (+30) to earn All-MAC First Team honors. Also finishing in the top-five for All-MAC First Team honors, in respective order, were Eastern’s Summer Frantz (179), Delaware Valley’s Rachel Brahler (186) and Eastern’s Jaclyn D’Angelo (188).

Brahler was the top rookie finisher, which earned her the 2018 MAC Women’s Golf Rookie of the Year.
 
There were three golfers that tied for sixth-place with a score of 189, including Eastern’s Sofia Frantz, Lebanon Valley’s Kaitlyn Kennedy and Stevenson’s Morgan Wirtz. Lycoming’s Hailey Fricke took ninth with a score of 190. Albright’s Heather MacQuarrie and Stevenson’s Laura Rentz tied for 10th with a score of 192. The sixth through 10th-place finishers were named All-MAC Second Team.
 
Alvernia will now head to the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship held from May 8-11 at the Mission Hills Resort Golf Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
