HERSHEY, Pa. (Men’s Golf) – The first day of the 2018 MAC Commonwealth and MAC Freedom Men’s Golf Championships are in the books. Stevenson has a six-stroke lead on the MAC Commonwealth field, while Eastern has a one-stroke lead on the MAC Freedom field through day one at the Hershey Country Club.
Hood’s Andy Baker finished day one with a 74 (+3) for a two-stroke lead in the individual standings of the MAC Commonwealth Championship.
DeSales’ Ryan Gutshall finished the first day with a 78 (+8) for a one-stroke lead in the individual standings of the MAC Freedom Championship.
Eastern’s Max Moore highlighted the day with a hole-in-one on the par-3 16
th.
MAC COMMONWEALTH
Stevenson recorded a day-one score of 317 (+33) to lead Lebanon Valley (323) by six strokes. Albright finished the first day with a score of 325, Alvernia recorded a 327 and Hood carded a 329 to round out the top-five. Messiah (335), Widener (355), Arcadia (363) and Lycoming (405) also scored as a team.
Baker has a two-stroke lead over Arcadia’s Kyle Henofer, Alvernia’s Keith Noonan and Stevenson’s Matthew Shur. The three golfers tied for second with a 76 (+5) on the first day. Albright’s Ben Foreman, Messiah’s Ryan Kirk and Stevenson’s Josh Maisel tied for fifth with a 78 (+7).
MAC FREEDOM
Eastern recorded a day-one score of 333 (+49) to hold a one-stroke lead over both FDU-Florham (334) and Manhattanville (334). King’s carded a 335 and DeSales carded a 338 to round out the top-five. Wilkes (368), Misericordia (369) and Delaware Valley (370) also recorded team scores.
Gutshall has a one-stroke lead over Eastern’s Nicky Marrollo (79). FDU-Florham’s Brendan Demitus finished the day with an 80 (+9). Six golfers tied for fourth with a score of 82 (+11), including King’s Ryan Crossin and Ryan Georgetti, FDU-Florham’s Mike Lieberman, Eastern’s Max Moore and Manhattanville’s Chandler Longfellow and Jason Siegel.
Day two of both championship will tee off at 8 a.m. The MAC Freedom will tee off from hole 10, while the MAC Commonwealth will tee off from hole one.
