2018-19 Winter MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes (PDF)
ANNVILLE, Pa. (Academic News) – The Middle Atlantic Conferences (MAC) Executive Director Ken Andrews announced the 2018-19 Winter MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes on Tuesday. A senior student-athlete from each of the nine winter sports (men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, men’s and women’s swimming and wrestling) were recognized for their strong academic and athletic prowess.
JASON KENNY
Men’s Basketball – Misericordia University
Jason Kenny (Dickson City, Pa.) became a two-time MAC Freedom Player of the Year this season after receiving the honor in both 2018 and 2019. The 2016 MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year also became a four-time All-MAC Freedom First Team selection this year. Kenny led the Cougars to back-to-back MAC Freedom titles in 2017 and 2018, and earned the 2017 MAC Freedom Championship Most Valuable Player award. The senior is a three-time D3hoops.com All-Region selection (2017-19) and a 2019 NABC All-Region selection. Kenny is the second player in program history to score 2,000 career points.
Kenny is majoring in business administration with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2019. He currently holds a 3.44 GPA and will become a four-time MAC Academic Honor Roll recipient in June. Kenny has been named to three-straight Men’s Basketball Academic All-MAC teams with the ability to become a four-time recipient in June. The senior was named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District squad this past season.
ALECIA ROHRER
Women’s Basketball – Messiah College
Alecia Rohrer (Manheim, Pa.) was named the 2019 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year and to the All-MAC Commonwealth First Team for the second-straight season (2018, 2019). Rohrer was a two-time All-MAC Commonwealth Honorable Mention selection in 2016 and 2017. She was named the 2016 MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year. Rohrer led the Falcons to three-straight MAC Commonwealth titles (2017-19), and was named the MAC Commonwealth Championship Most Valuable Player in both 2018 and 2019. This past season, Rohrer was named an WBCA All-American and named D3hoops.com All-America Honorable Mention. She added D3hoops.com All-Region honors. Rohrer also played in the inaugural WBCA All-Star game. She became the first player in program history with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds (1,017).
Rohrer is majoring in criminal justice with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2019. She currently holds a 3.82 GPA and will become a four-time MAC Academic Honor Roll recipient in June. Rohrer has been named to two-straight Women’s Basketball Academic All-MAC teams with the ability to become a three-time recipient in June. The senior was named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team is past season, while also earned Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
MARCO FERRARO
Men’s Ice Hockey – Manhattanville College
Marco Ferraro (Toronto, Ontario) was named the 2019 MAC Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-MAC First Team as a defenseman. Ferraro was also named to the All-UCHC First Team. The senior led the Valiants to both the 2019 MAC Championship and 2019 UCHC Championship. In doing so, Manhattanville advanced to the NCAA Championship, advancing to the national quarterfinal round. Ferraro ranks 11
th in Division III in points-per-game by a defenseman (0.94). He led the MAC in plus/minus (+19).
Ferraro is majoring in finance with an expected graduation date in the spring on 2019. He currently holds a 3.96 GPA and will be named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for a second-straight season in June. Ferraro is a two-time AHCA All-American Scholar, while also being named to the ECAC West All-Academic Team in 2017.
KELLEN WITTMAN
Women’s Ice Hockey – Stevenson University
Kellen Wittman (Tecumseh, Kan.) was named 2019 MAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year and to the All-MAC First Team as a forward. She was also named All-UCHC Honorable Mention. Wittman led the conference with 1.30 points per game, and second with 30 total points. She led the MAC with 19 goals and was eighth with 11 assists. Wittman was fifth in the MAC in 2017-18 with 10 goals while leading the Mustangs to the inaugural MAC title.
Wittman is concluding her master’s in business technology and management with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2019. She currently holds a 4.0 GPA and will be named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for a second-straight season in June. Wittman was named an AHCA All-American Scholar.
ALEX FITCH
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – Misericordia University
Alex Fitch (Bethlehem, Pa.) is a four-time medalist at MAC Indoor Championships, including a pair of gold medals this past year in the men’s 3,000-meter run and distance medley relay (DMR). The DMR team set a new MAC Championship record with a time of 10:24.11. Fitch took bronze in the 3,000-meter run in both 2017 and 2018.
Fitch is working toward his physical therapy doctorate with an expected doctorate graduation date in 2021. He earned his undergraduate degree in 2018 and has completed his final year of athletic eligibility. Fitch currently holds a 3.73 GPA and will be named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for a fourth-straight season in June. He is a two-time Men’s Indoor Track & Field Academic All-MAC selection, and has been named to the Misericordia University Dean’s List.
JILL KORGESKI
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – King’s College
Jill Korgeski (Dunmore, Pa.) is a four-time MAC Champion in the indoor shot put, earning All-MAC First Team honors all four seasons (2016-19). Korgeski advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship all four season, and earned all-America honors twice in 2017 and 2019. The senior is a four-time USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region honoree. In 2016, she also made the podium for All-MAC Second Team honors in the weight throw. Korgeski is the school recorded holder in the shot put, and recorded the best mark in the MAC all four seasons.
Korgeski is studying in the physician assistant program with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2019. She currently holds a 3.70 GPA and will be named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for a fourth-straight season. Korgeski is a two-time Women’s Indoor Track & Field Academic All-MAC selection (2016, 2017), and has been named to the King’s College Dean’s List every semester. The senior was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 team in 2017. She is a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honoree (2016-18).
RHYCE HAMMAKER
Men’s Swimming – King’s College
Rhyce Hammaker (Harrisburg, Pa.) is a seven-time MAC Championship medalist with two gold medals, one silver medal and four bronze medals. Hammaker is a nine-time All-MAC swimmer with four first-team, four second-team and one third-team honors. The senior won gold in the 100-yard breaststroke in 2018 and was a member of the 200-yard medley relay winning team in 2018. In his final MAC Championship, Hammaker took bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle relay.
Hammaker is a triple major in the physician assistant program and neuroscience and psychology with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2019. He currently holds a 3.83 GPA and will be named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for a fourth-straight season. Hammaker was named to the 2018 Men’s Swimming Academic All-MAC team with the ability to be named to the team in June.
CASSIE COTTON
Women’s Swimming – Messiah College
Cassie Cotton (Marlton, N.J.) is a five-time MAC individual champion and a 15-time MAC relay champion. Cotton was also an 11-time MAC individual medalist and a 16-time MAC relay medalist during her four seasons. She was named the 2016 MAC Women’s Swimming Rookie of the Year. Cotton led the Falcons to four-straight MAC titles (2016-19). The senior went onto the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship where she earned all-American honorable mention honors in the 100-yard butterfly. Cotton is a part of all five MAC Overall and MAC Championship Relay records.
Cotton is majoring in health and physical education (K-12) with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2019. She currently holds a 3.69 GPA and will be named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for a fourth-straight season in June. Cotton has been named to three-straight Women’s Swimming Academic All-MAC teams with the ability to be named to a fourth in June. The senior was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American.
NICHOLAS RACANELLI
Wrestling – Wilkes University
Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, N.J.) became a three-time NCAA Division III Championship qualifier this past season. Racanelli also reached the 100 career win mark this season as he finished his career with a 112-34 overall record. The senior finished his senior season with a 32-3 record. Racanelli won the 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional title, while finishing second in both 2016 and 2017. The senior was a three-time bronze medalist at the MAC Championship.
Racanelli is majoring in biology and Spanish with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2019. He currently holds a 3.54 GPA and will be named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for a third time in June. Racanelli was named an NWCA Scholar All-American this past season.
