INDIANAPOLIS (Conference News) - The 2020-21 NCAA Leadership Academy Workshop (LAW) announced its attendees recently, and after a thorough application process both King's College assistant athletic director Jess Huda and athletic business and operations coordinator and senior woman administrator Megan Mundy were chosen. The pairing was picked by the NCAA from a pool of candidates from all three divisions and conference offices around the country.
The Leadership Academy Workshop is an eight-month commitment and will consist of three learning modules. These learning modules (Module 1: Foundations, Module 2: Applications, and Module 3: Implementation), will each be comprised of 4 weeks of focused engagement on a critical area of leadership program development. Participants will meet once weekly during each module and should expect to engage with members of their cohort throughout the program.
Huda is the first full-time assistant athletic director at King's College, having joined the staff in the summer of 2019. Huda came to King's College after a lengthy tenure at Cabrini University in Radnor, Pa., and has been handling compliance at King's while also assuming a teaching role with the College. Mundy joined the King's College Athletic Department as the athletic business & operations coordinator and SWA in the summer of 2015. Prior to her role in Athletics, Mundy spent to two years as an admissions counselor and athletics liaison at King's and was promoted to assistant director of admissions before making the switch to join the athletic department full-time. Mundy served as an assistant coach for the field hockey team during 2014 and 2015 seasons and was promoted to the lead assistant coach in 2016.
The NCAA Leadership Academy Workshop empowers athletics administrators (participants) with the knowledge and plan to build a sustainable leadership development program. Not a one-size-fits-all experience, LAW utilizes best practices and lessons learned so participants can tailor their leadership development program to their unique campus needs.
LAW will utilize face-to-face virtual trainings, via the Zoom platform, to continue providing needle-moving education. The virtual program will incorporate active learning strategies and high-level participant engagement to replicate the in-person LAW programming experience. LAW virtual sessions will utilize Zoom features including polling, breakout groups and the chat box to maintain the interactive dynamic necessary to foster a transformative impact. The sessions will also include slide deck visuals and audio and video clips to manage the pace and energy of "the room."
LAW is an institutional partnership, and as such, applicants must apply with one other person from their campus to be eligible. Please note: participants are required to attend all virtual sessions and complete thorough pre- and post-program educational assignments.
"Any time that you are given an opportunity to work directly with the NCAA, and others from athletic departments throughout the country, is an amazing opportunity and I can't wait to get started," said Huda. "In my short time here at King's, it is evident that our student-athletes possess many of the characteristics of being a good leader. My hope is that this workshop will provide us with the knowledge and tools to create a leadership program that will assist our student-athletes in becoming even better leaders on campus and throughout the community."
"I am thankful and so excited about being accepted into the NCAA Leadership Academy with Jess," said Mundy. "This experience will allow us to gain the skills and knowledge to develop our own leadership program here at King's. I look forward to taking what we learn and providing our student- athletes with resources that will help with their growth and allow them to thrive as leaders on their respective teams, within the King's community, and professionally after graduation."
