MAC Weekly Awards Announcement (April 22, 2025)

Seven student-athletes were recognized for performances from April 15 - April 21.

NEWTOWN, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending April 21, 2025. A total of seven student-athletes were recognized for performances from April 15, 2025 to April 21, 2025

MEN'S GOLF (#MACgolf)
MAC Commonwealth Golfer of the Week

Matthew Salter (York / Sr. / Olney, Md.) led the Spartans to a strong third place finish at the Gettysburg Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Penn National Golf Club in Fayetteville, Pa. He finished second in the tournament with a 1-under 143. Salter shot 74 (+2) on Friday and followed that with a three-under 69 on Saturday. Salter was one over on Friday's opening nine and he followed that with a one-over 37 on the back. Salter torched the front nine on Saturday as he was four-under at the turn. He was one-over on the back for his 69. The top five finish for Salter was the eighth of his career.

MAC Freedom Golfer of the Week
Ben Slicker (Stevens / So. / Leawood, Kan.) led the Ducks with a 12th-place finish at the Gettysburg Spring Shootout, recording a plus-6 overall. On Saturday, he carded a plus-1 and registered five birdies on the afternoon. He was even on the back nine and played holes 10 through 14 at -3. Slicker birdied the par-5 10th, the par-4 12th, and the par-5 14th, while also adding birdies on holes one and three. On Friday Slicker led the Ducks with a 77 (+5), placing him 18th overall. He shot a plus-1 on the front nine, notching birdies on the opening par-four first hole and the par-four fifth. He also competed in the F&M Spring Invitational on Monday, shooting a plus-7.

WOMEN’S GOLF (#MACgolf)
MAC Golfer of the Week

Katie Lapinsky (Alvernia / Sr. / Lancaster, Pa.) had Alvernia’s low round of the day at the Bloomsburg Husky Invitational to lead the Golden Wolves to a first place finish with a team score of 342. Lapinsky fired a 7-over 80 to tie for third in the field of primarily Division II teams. Lapinsky finished her round with eight pars and two birdies.

MEN’S TENNIS (#MACtennis)
MAC Commonwealth Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Luke Appleman (Stevenson / Fy. / Bethlehem, Pa.) helped the Mustangs to a 6-1 victory over Alvernia on Saturday. At No. 1 doubles, Appleton and his partner notched a 6-4 win for their fifth victory of the season. At No. 1 singles, he recorded his seventh victory of the year with a 6-1, 6-0 effort.

MAC Freedom Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Max-William Kanz (Stevens / Jr. / Wethersfield, Conn.) went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-1 in doubles this week. He beat NYU’s top player, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 for the Ducks lone point in a 6-1 setback to the Violets on April 16. He then knocked off DeSales’ and FDU’s No. 1s, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively. He teamed with Samvid Andhare at No. 2 doubles for a 6-0 win against DeSales and teamed with Olof Persson for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles against FDU-Florham.

WOMEN’S TENNIS (#MACtennis)
MAC Commonwealth Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Alex Pancu (Albright / Sr. / Reading, Pa.) led the Lions to their 22nd straight regular season win beating Messiah 7-0 at home. Pancu has now won 58 career No. 1 singles matches taking down Messiah's No. 1 player in straight sets 6-1, 7-5. Pancu then won No. 1 doubles in sweeping fashion winning 6-0 alongside teammate Allison Horick. 

MAC Freedom Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Sude Aytekin (Stevens / Jr. / Istanbul, Turkey) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles in a 4-0 win over FDU-Florham on Tuesday. She teamed with Milagros Carbajal Diaz at No. 2 doubles for a 6-0 win against DeSales, while adding a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. She then notched a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles and scored the lone point for the Ducks with a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) triumph at No. 3 singles against Haverford.
