Patrick Robinson made two critical plays as a punt rusher that enabled the Monarchs to post a come-from-behind 35-28 victory over cross-town rival Wilkes in the annual Mayor’s Cup game. With King’s trailing 21-7 at the start of the fourth quarter Robinson blocked a Wilkes punt and King’s recovered at the Colonel 13. The Monarchs would eventually score and cut the lead to 21-14. With 0:15 left in the contest and the game tied 28-28 with Wilkes punting from their own 29, King’s teammate Monroe Sherman blocked the punt and Robinson picked up the ball at the Colonel 10 and raced into the end zone with what proved to be the winning touchdown with 0:08 on the clock. A back-up tailback, Robinson also chipped in with two catches for 35 yards out of the backfield.
