MAC Wrestler of the Week
Tim Ambacher (Delaware Valley / Jr. / Newtown, Pa.) went 5-0, including a pair of wins over nationally ranked wrestlers, to capture the 141 lbs. title at the New Standard Corporation Invitational at York College (Pa.). The junior opened the tournament with a 10-3 decision over Pat McGinnis (Baldwin-Wallace) and followed with a 12-3 major over Amir Harper (Ferrum). He then knocked off Joe Ferrinde (Johnson & Wales), who is ranked No. 10 in NWCA rankings, with a 6-4 decision. In the semifinals, Ambacher faced the top seed of the tournament in Nick Wahba of Ithaca. Wahba was ranked third in one national poll and seventh in another, but it was Ambacher who came away with the 9-7 decision. Ambacher then defeated second-seeded Anthony Gagliano of The College of New Jersey in the finals with a 4-1 decision for the crown. Ambacher is now 11-3 on the season.
