MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Erin Volutza (Wilkes / Sr. / Sinking Spring, Pa.) became the first Wilkes women’s tennis player in the history of the program to win a championship at the ITA Regionals last weekend. The senior came away as the Women’s Singles – Flight E Champion at the ITA Division III Southeast Women’s Regional Championship with three victories. On Saturday, Volutza defeated Ariana Leggio of Salisbury, 8-4, in her opening round match. She then defeated the No. 2 seeded Colleen McLaughlin of Catholic, 8-2, in the quarterfinal round. The senior won her semifinal match, 8-5, against Virginia Wesleyan’s Katie Staman. Volutza was award the title on Sunday by default after her opponent had to withdraw due to injury.
