Class of 1938
Riffle earned 12 varsity letters and was a two-time All-American in football. In three seasons, he led his Albright teams to a combined record of 20-2-2. Later Riffle went on to play five seasons in the NFL: two with the Philadelphia Eagles and three with the Pittsburgh Steelers. For his professional career, Riffle had 15 total touchdowns, rushing for 1,381 yards on 388 carries, caught 19 passes for 189 yards, and threw for 322 yards. Also an Army veteran of World War II, Riffle earned a bronze star for his military service. A 1938 Albright yearbook page dedicated to Riffle congratulated him “not only for his athletic achievements, but also for his good sportsmanship, ambition and high ideals.”
