Howie Landa, Lebanon Valley College
Basketball – Class of 1955
As the all-time leading scorer (1,936 points) at Lebanon Valley upon graduation, Howie Landa led the Dutchmen to a MAC title and NCAA Sweet 16 in 1954. He remains the LVC all-time leader in free throws made in a career (702) and season (242, 1955). Landa also holds the LVC game record for free throws made (22), held the record for points (45) for nearly 20 years. He played professionally in the Eastern Pro League (now the CBA). Later he went to Mercer County College where he coached two NJCAA national championship teams, and at UNLV, where he was an assistant under Jerry Tarkanian from 1990 to 1994. Landa is a member of the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and his number (11) is one of five retired in LVC men's basketball history.
