Center Valley, PA (March 10, 2010) – Senior Andrew Ferretti (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) of the DeSales University men’s cross-country team was honored on Wednesday as he was awarded one of 29 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships handed out to male student-athletes on a Fall sport.

The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The one-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall sports, winter sports and spring sports. Each sports season (fall, winter and spring), there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women. The scholarships are one-time, non-renewable grants.

Ferretti is carrying a 3.82 cumulative grade point average into the spring semester at DeSales as a physician assistant major. He has also been a standout on the cross country team for each of the past four years including this year when he finished fifth overall at the MAC Championships to earn All-MAC First-Team honors for the second time in his career. Ferretti was also honored early this year being named the 2009 Men’s Cross Country Fall MAC Scholar-Athlete award winner.

In addition, Ferretti earned All-MAC First-Team honors as a sophomore, leading the Bulldogs to its first and only MAC Cross Country Championship, and earned All-MAC Second-Team honors as a junior. He was also named a USTFCCCA Academic All-American in 2007 in cross country.

Ferretti becomes just the third student-athlete in DeSales University history to earn an NCAA Postgraduate scholarship joining George Bilicic Jr. (Men’s Basketball – 1985) and Vic Longo (Men’s Cross Country – 2000).
