DALLAS, Pa. (Volleyball) - Robert Wingert has been named the head coach of the men's and women's volleyball teams at Misericordia University,
Chuck Edkins, director of athletics, has announced. "I am excited to welcome Robert to Misericordia University as our women's and men's full-time volleyball coach," said Edkins. "His professional and enthusiastic passion for volleyball, along with his commitment to the university, will be a tremendous asset to Misericordia athletics."
A graduate of Stevenson University, Wingert served as the graduate assistant of the women's team during the 2016 season. He led the Mustangs to the NCAA Division III Final Four as a senior and was a second-team AVCA All-American.
"Rob's success as a student-athlete coupled with his knowledge of Division III athletics will give Misericordia University volleyball a leg up in the competitive world of student athlete recruitment," said Edkins. "His belief in the personal, academic and athletic development of our student-athletes will bode well for the future of Misericordia University women's and men's volleyball."
Wingert earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and was named to the CoSIDA All-District All-Academic team. In addition, he was a finalist for the D-III Setter of the Year as a senior.
Wingert also serves as the chair of the NCAA D-III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
A four-year member of the men's volleyball program at Stevenson, Wingert led the Mustangs to two ECAC championships, one Continental Volleyball Conference championship.
As a senior, Wingert was named CVC Player of the Year and was an AVCA second-team All-American.
He was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team and finished fourth in the nation in assists per set while leading a team that hit .301 (sixth in nation).
Wingert rounded out his career with a CoSIDA Academic All-District Selection and was one of three finalists for the D-III Setter of the Year.
Wingert was a two-time first-team all-state selection at Holy Redeemer High School.
He has worked numerous volleyball camps throughout the east coast and regularly competes at the semi-professional level both for indoor volleyball and grass/beach doubles in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
