ANNVILLE, Pa. (Men’s Basketball) – The Arcadia Knights were selected as the favorite in the 2018-19 conference preseason poll conducted among the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MAC Commonwealth) men’s basketball coaches. The Knights received 61 points and six of the nine first-place votes.
Albright and Widener tied for second with 52 points and a first-place vote each. Messiah ranked fourth with 48 points and one first place vote. Lycoming rounded out the top-five with 26 points.
The rest of the poll in respective order includes Alvernia (24 points), Hood (23 points), Lebanon Valley (21 points) and Stevenson (17 points).
Lebanon Valley defeated Albright, 70-68, in last year’s conference title game for its first conference title since 1995. The Dutchmen went on to the NCAA Division III Tournament, but fell to Middlebury, 83-63, in the opening round. The Lions also earned a berth to the national tournament, but fell to Springfield, 88-86, in the first round.
Joining Lebanon Valley (2) and Albright (1) at the 2017 MAC Commonwealth Championship were Lycoming (3), Messiah (4) and Arcadia (5).
Arcadia and Widener both went on to compete at the 2018 ECAC Division III Men’s Basketball Championship. The Knights fell to Junita in the opening round. The Pride battle through the tournament to win the title. Widener defeated Wilson, Baruch (forfeit), Wilkes and Neumann on their way to the title.
