MAC Weekly Awards Announcement (Dec. 9, 2019)

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending Dec. 8, 2019. A total of 19 student-athletes were recognized for performances from Dec. 2-8, 2019.
 
 
MEN’S BASKETBALL (#MAChoops)
 
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Isaiah Harris (Albright / Jr., C / Edgewater, N.J.) posted a pair of 20-plus point games in the past week for the Lions. He opened the week with 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds against Arcadia on Wednesday. He followed that with a season-high 26 points and eight rebounds in an overtime win over LVC on Saturday. For the week, Harris averaged 24.5 points per game and went 23-of-31 (74.2%) from the field. 
 
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Christopher Smalls (Hood / So., G / Washington, D.C.) led a defense the held Arcadia scoreless over the final 5:47. Hood trailed by 18 in the second half and finished the game with a 17-0 run. Smalls had five steals and a block in the game to go with 11 points and four rebounds.
 
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Noah Rivera (Misericordia / Sr., C / Wilmington, Del.) averaged 18.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Cougars. Rivera had nine points and 15 rebounds in a win at Neumann to begin the week. The senior then scored 28 points and added 14 rebounds at Marywood.  
 
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Jake Robel (Wilkes / So., F / Middlesex, N.J.) led the Colonels to a 1-1 week on the defensive end with five blocks and three steals. In a victory against Marywood, Robel had four blocks and one steal. He then added one block and two steals in a setback to Messiah. Robel added 11 total rebounds including seven defensive over the two games. Robel was also efficient on offense going 9-for-9 for 19 points against Marywood and 6-for-8 for 13 points against Messiah.
 
 
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (#MAChoops)
 
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Devan Rimmer (Widener / Sr., G / Perkasie, Pa.) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. Rimmer averaged 27 points per game and connected on 12-of-21 shots from beyond the arc as the Pride opened 2-0 in MAC Commonwealth play with wins against Lebanon Valley and Alvernia. She scored 24 points on 9-for-12 shooting overall and 6-for-8 from distance against the Dutchmen on Wednesday. On Saturday against Alvernia, she netted her fourth career 30 point game, connecting on 6-of-13 shots from beyond the arc while also dishing six assists in a double overtime win. The senior scored 12 of her points in the extra sessions against the Golden Wolves.
 
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Dejah Terrell (Albright / So., F / Reading, Pa.) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. Terrell totaled 18 defensive rebounds, 11 blocks, and 6 steals in two conference wins this week for the Lions to remain undefeated on the season. In a win over Arcadia, she recorded five blocked shots and seven rebounds to go with 13 points. Against Lebanon Valley, the sophomore had six blocks and six steals to go with 11 rebounds and 20 points.
 
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Gianna Roberts (Wilkes / Sr., C / Nanticoke, Pa.) averaged 19 points on 68-percent (15-for-22) shooting for the week to lead the Colonels to wins over Gwynedd Mercy and Pratt Institute. The senior scored 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds and two assists. Roberts followed that with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting with five rebounds and two assists against Pratt.
 
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Maddie Kelley (Wilkes / Jr., G / Dallas, Pa.) helped the Colonels to wins over Gwynedd Mercy and Pratt Institute. Kelley recorded 3 steals, 14 defensive rebounds over the week. Kelley also recorded a pair of double-doubles with 13-10 and 12-11 on points-rebounds.
 
 
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY (#MAChky)
 
MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Nick Gray (Stevenson / Sr., F / Stafford, Va.) finished the weekend with four points on three goals and one assist. In the Mustangs 5-4 victory over No. 8 Utica, the senior recorded two goals and one assist. He scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game at 2-2 in the second period before scoring the eventual game-winner on an empty netter in the third. Gray also assisted on a power play goal early in the third. In a 2-0 victory over Nazareth, Gray scored the game-winner on a power play goal in the first period.
 
MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Ryan Kenny (Stevenson / Fr., G / Sparta, N.J.) earns his second conference weekly award of the season. Kenny posted a pair of victories over the weekend to improve to 6-0-0 on the season. Against No. 8 Utica, Kenny stopped 18 of 22 shots he faced. The rookie posted his second shutout of the season, stopping all 23 shots in a 2-0 victory over Nazareth.
 
 
WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY (#MAChky)
 
MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Josée Aitken (King’s / Jr., F / Eyebrow, Saskatchewan) led the Monarchs to their first win of the year on Saturday with two goals and an assist in a 4-2 victory at Alvernia on the second day of the Keystone Holiday Classic. The junior scored the first and fourth goals of the game and assisted on Caitlin Redden's game-winning goal in the second period. Aitken also won 11 faceoffs on 22 attempts in the game.
 
MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Jill Moffatt (Lebanon Valley / Sr., G / Owensound, Ontario) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. Moffatt was strong between the pipes as she went 1-1 on the week. Moffatt made 22 saves in a shutout win over King's on Friday, followed by a 35-save performance in a losing effort to Neumann, 2-1. Moffatt posted a .966 save percentage on the week.
 
 
MEN’S SWIMMING (#MACswim)
 
MAC Swimmer of the Week
Tyler Zanki (Stevens / Sr.  / Wyckoff, N.J.) had a record-breaking performance at the WPI Gompei Invitational. Zanki record two NCAA “B” cut times and broke two Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) records. The senior swam the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 55.36 seconds (Previous MAC Record: 56.78). Zanki then swam the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:03.03 (Previous MAC Record: 2:04.24) during prelims. Zanki then swam a time of 2:04.06 during the finals which was also better than the previous conference record.
 
 
WOMEN’S SWIMMING (#MACswim)
 
MAC Swimmer of the Week
Isabella Fairman (Stevens / Sr. / St. Paul, Minn.) had a record-breaking performance at the WPI Gompei Invitational. Fairman broke both the MAC’s 500-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM records that stood since 1990. The senior swam the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:03.15, which broke the record time of 5:04.37 which stood since the 1990-91 season (Lynne Cassidy, Gettysburg). Fairman also broke the 400 IM record time of 4:34.75 (Megan Devine, F&M) which stood since the 1989-90 season with a time of 4:34.02. Fairman also swam top conference season times in the 50 freestyle (24.28), 100 freestyle (52.82) and 200 freestyle (1:53.13).
 

MEN’S INDOOR TRACK (#MACtf)
 
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Patrick Watson (Stevenson / Sr. / Edgewater, Md.) took first place by over 26 seconds in the 5K at the season-opening Coach I Open hosted by Franklin and Marshall, running a school-record time of 14:25.40. Posted the fastest time in Division III on the opening weekend by over nine seconds and a time that currently would rank among the top 20 in both Division I and Division II.
 
MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Clement Onyebadi (Stevenson / Jr. / Edgewood, Md.) took first in the high jump at the Coach I Open hosted by Franklin and Marshall with a jump of 2.00 meters, matching his personal best. His jump is currently ranked No. 5 in Division III.
 
 
WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK (#MACtf)
 
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Laura Mathews (Stevens / Fr. / Denville, N.J.) ran the fastest 60-meter hurdles time in NCAA Division III over the weekend. In her first collegiate event, Mathews broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles at the TCNJ Indoor Open, winning the race in 8.95 seconds, topping Stevens' previous mark of 9.26 seconds in 2014. She recorded the record-setting time in both the preliminary and championship races and her time in the final topped the field that included four Division I runners. Mathews would also go on to join classmate Liana Meyer and seniors Melissa Barnes and Gina Dello Russo to break the program's 4x400-meter relay record.
 
MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Danika Ani (Stevenson / Sr. / Westminster, Md.) broke the MAC record in the weight throw with a mark of 16.75 meters, breaking the previous record throw of 16.39 meters set last year by Widener’s Allison Reuter. Ani did so at the Coach I Open, and now ranks No. 5 in Division III.
 
 
WRESTLING (#MACwrestle)
 
MAC Wrestler of the Week
Garret Cornell (Messiah / Fr., 141 lbs. / Everett, Pa.) pinned his way to the 141 lbs. title at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational this weekend. After picking up five pins, Cornell moved his record to 15-0 on the season with nine total pins. He was named the Petrofes Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament.
