ANNVILLE, Pa. (Men’s Lacrosse) – The Stevenson Mustangs were selected as the favorite in the 2020 conference preseason poll conducted among the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MAC Commonwealth) men’s lacrosse coaches. The Mustangs received 64 points and first-place votes from all eight opposing conference coaches.
Widener collected 54 points to be ranked second, and Messiah earned 51 points to rank third. Arcadia received 42 for fourth, and Lycoming rounded out the top-5 with 39 points.
The rest of the poll in respective order includes Hood (26 points), Lebanon Valley (24 points), Albright (16 points) and Alvernia (8 points)
A season ago, Stevenson finished the conference slate with an 8-0 record to capture the regular-season title and top-seed in the conference championship. The Mustangs went on to claim their seventh-straight MAC Commonwealth title with a 23-4 win over Lycoming.
The 2019 MAC Commonwealth Championship seeds were: No. 1 Stevenson, No. 2 Messiah, No. 3 Lycoming, No. 4 Widener and No. 5 Arcadia. Widener defeated Arcadia in the play-in round. Then Stevenson defeated Widener and Lycoming defeated Messiah in the semifinal round.
Stevenson earned the conference’s automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAA Division III Championship. The Mustangs opened the tournament with a 12-9 win over Franklin & Marshall, but then fell to Tufts, 19-4, in the next round.
The 2020 season is set to begin on Feb. 1. The 2020 MAC Commonwealth Men’s Lacrosse Championship is set for April 27 to May 2.
