MAC Weekly Awards Announcement (Dec. 6, 2021)

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending Dec. 5, 2021. A total of 15 student-athletes were recognized for performances from Nov. 29 – Dec. 5, 2021.
 
 
MEN’S BASKETBALL (#MAChoops)
 
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Mason Wang (Hood / Sr., G / Williamsburg, Va.) repeats as conference player of the week for his second of the season. Wang scored 19 of his 21 points in the first half of Hood's 100-79 win over Widener, and he had eight steals, just one shy of both the school record and the Division III season-high, and seven assists in the win. Wang scored 26 points to go with six rebounds, four steals and an assist in an 84-82 win over Stevenson.
 
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Conor Coffey (Stevens / Jr., G / Monroe, N.Y.) averaged 15.5 points and seven assists in a pair of conference victories over Arcadia and Lycoming. Against the Knights, Coffey had 14 points and a career-high eight assists. Against the Warriors, Coffey had 17 points and six assists. All totaled, the third-year guard had 31 points, 14 assists, six rebounds and three steals.
 
 
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (#MAChoops)
 
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Kayla Ferris (York / Gr., G / Staten Island, N.Y.) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. Ferris finished the week with three double-doubles, averaging 13.33 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.33 steals and 3.33 assists per game. Against Elizabethtown, Ferris scored 12 points to go with 11 rebounds, five steals, two assists and a block. The guard then scored 16 points to go with 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block against Alvernia. The graduate student led the Spartans to a third win on the week with 12 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and three assists against Lebanon Valley.
 
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Jess Broad (Stevens / Sr., F / Marlboro, N.J.) earns her third-straight conference weekly award for her third of the season. Broad averaged 11 points, 12 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 2.5 blocks over a pair of conference victories over Arcadia and Lycoming. Against the Knights, Broad scored 12 points and 10 rebounds, while adding five assists and four steals. She followed that up with 10 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks, three steals and two assists against the Warriors.
 
 
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY (#MAChky)
 
MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Ryan Patrick (Stevenson / Sr., F / Morgantown, W.Va.) repeats as conference player of the week for his second of the season. Patrick led the Mustangs to a 2-0 week with two goals and three assists. The senior recorded three assists in a 5-2 win over Lebanon Valley. Patrick then scored both goals in a 2-1 win over SUNY Cortland.
 
MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Ryan Kenny (Stevenson / Jr., G / Sparta, N.J.) repeats as conference player of week for his third of the season. Kenny made 75 saves over a pair of wins for the Mustangs to finish with a .962 save percentage. In a 5-2 win over Lebanon Valley, the junior made 29 saves. He then made a career-high 46 saves in a 2-1 win over SUNY Cortland.
 
 
WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY (#MAChky)
 
MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Karly Aguirre (Stevenson / Jr., F / Waltham, Mass.) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. Aguirre scored two goals and added an assist in a 4-2 win over Wilkes. The junior then scored one goal and added an assist in a 4-0 win over Colonels the following day.
 
MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Ainsley King (Stevenson / So., G / Perterborough, N.H.) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. King earned her first career shutout in a 4-0 win over Wilkes with 12 saves.
 
 
SWIMMING (#MACswim)
 
MAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Jonus Gurski (Misericordia / Jr. / Woodbridge, N.J.) earns his third conference swimmer of the week honor of the season. Gurski led Misericordia two a team runner-up finish at their Cougar Splash Invitational with three individual victories. All three times were conference best times and two were pool records. The junior swam pool record times in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.70 seconds) and 200-yard IM (1:56.01). He also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a MAC-best time of 2:09.33. Gurski led the 800-yard freestyle relay team to victory.
 
MAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Camryn Hubric (Misericordia / Jr. / Mohnton, Pa.) recorded two MAC-best times while helping Misericordia to the team title at their Cougars Splash Invitational. Hubric swam MAC-best times in both the 50-yard freestyle (24.37 seconds) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.43 seconds). The junior was also part of three winning relay teams.
 
 
MEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD (#MACtf)
 
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Owen Buhr (Lebanon Valley / Sr. / Hanover, Pa.) won the 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash with MAC-best times at the Franklin & Marshall Open. Buhr won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 seconds, and the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.42 seconds.
 
MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Brendan Provan (Messiah / Gr. / Lansdale, Pa.) recorded a personal best in the long jump (6.68 meters) and the triple jump (13.93 meters) at the Dickinson DuCharme Invitational. Provan’s triple jump mark is the sixth best mark in the country over the first weekend of competition. He also finished the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.62 seconds.
 
 
WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD (#MACtf)
 
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Katelyn Bernotas (Messiah / Gr. / Chester Springs, Pa.) won the one mile run at the Dickinson DuCharme Invitational with a MAC-best time of 5:24.16. Her time is the 12th-best in Division III, and was 12 seconds faster than the runner-up finisher.
 
MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Brenna Karnish (Misericordia / Sr. / Lansford, Pa.) won both the shot put and the weight throw at the Susquehanna Invitational. Karnish won the shot put with a mark of 12.77 meters (fifth best in Division III) and then won the weight throw with a mark of 15.66 meters (sixth best in Division III).
 
 
WRESTLING (#MACwrestle)
 
MAC Wrestler of the Week
Connor Fulmer (Lycoming / Jr., 285 lbs. / Elysburg, Pa.) went 5-0 to take his third tournament of the year at the Ohio Northern Invitational. Fulmer, seeded third in the tournament, opened his run with a pin of Hiram's Isaac DeVault in 1:16 before he posted an 8-0 major decision over Mount St. Joseph's Michael Addis to reach the quarterfinals, where he added an identical 8-0 major against Ohio Northern's Ben DePrest. He followed with a pin of Mount St. Joseph's Bradley Smith to reach the finals, where he won 7-2 (retirement) over Robert Melise of Dubuque.
