ANNVILLE, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending Feb. 14, 2021. A total of seven student-athletes were recognized for performances from Feb. 8-14, 2021.
MEN’S BASKETBALL (#MAChoops)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Collin Jones (Lebanon Valley / So., F / Lock Haven, Pa.) led Lebanon Valley to a pair of wins over Messiah to open the season. He averaged 23 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 63% from the field. In an 80-67 win at home in the season opener, Jones scored 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting, including 3-for-6 from behind the arc. The forward added 14 rebounds for a double-double, while also recording three steals. Jones followed that performance with 22 points and added five rebounds, two steals and an assist in the 91-71 road win at Messiah.
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Da’Kquan Davis (Arcadia / Sr., G / Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Knights to a 2-0 record against Delaware Valley to begin the season. Davis averaged 29.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and two assists per game, while shooting over 50 percent from the field. In a 78-72 win at home, Davis scored 28 points with four rebounds, three assists and a steal. The senior then had a dominant second-half of an 81-76 road win over the Aggies. Davis scored 29 of his 31 points in the second half. He also tallied seven rebounds, a steal and an assist.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (#MAChoops)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Gabby Boggs (Albright / Jr., F / Northfield, N.J.) led the Lions to a pair of wins over Eastern to begin the season. Boggs averaged 17.5 points, 10 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and two assists per game while also shooting 58% from the field. In a 53-50 win at home in the season opener, Boggs scored 18 points on 9-for-14 shooting to go with six rebounds, three assists and three blocks. In a 59-49 win on the road at Eastern, the junior recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Boggs added two blocks and an assist.
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Julia Makowski (Arcadia / Jr., G / Wapwallopen, Pa.) led the Knights to a pair of wins over Delaware Valley to begin the season. Makowski finished the week averaging a double-double with 18.5 points and 11 rebounds per game. She also tallied six assists and three steals. In a 64-52 win on the road, Makowski scored 19 points while adding seven rebounds, four assists and one steal. In their 57-45 home victory, the junior recorded a double-double with 18 points, 15 rebounds, two assists and two steals.
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY (#MAChky)
MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Chad Watt (Stevenson / Jr., F / Riverside, Calif.) totaled three points on two goals and one assist in an opening-weekend sweep of Chatham. Watt tallied an unassisted goal in the season-opening 4-1 win. The junior then added a goal and an assist in game two. He finished the weekend with a plus-two rating and seven shots.
MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Marko Sturma (Stevenson / So., G / Poprad, Slovakia) made 19 saves on 20 shots in his first collegiate game to defeat Chatham by a score of 4-1. Sturma made 16-straight saves after letting up a first-period goal. He also made eight saves on the penalty kill.
WRESTLING (#MACwrestle)
MAC Wrestler of the Week
Michael Dooley (Stevens / Jr., 197 lbs. / Hillsborough, N.J.) opened his season with a pair of victories, including a win over a nationally-ranked wrestler. Dooley pinned Castleton’s Haven Tatarek in a time of 2:44 in his first match. Then Dooley defeated fifth-ranked Quinn Haddad of TCNJ by a 5-2 decision.
