ANNVILLE, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending May 9, 2021. A total of 18 student-athletes were recognized for performances from May 3-9, 2021.
BASEBALL (#MACbaseball)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Austin Denlinger (York / Jr., SS / Elizabethtown, Pa.) repeats as conference player of the week for his second of the season. Denlinger had another big week for the Spartans as he led them to a championship series appearance with a Saturday sweep of Eastern. Denlinger hit .500 in the two games as he was 4-for-8. All four of his hits were for extra bases with three home runs and a double. He scored four runs and drove in seven during the two-game series win. In the opening game, he was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI as the Spartans won 9-7. In the nightcap, he went 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored including his 16th and 17th home runs of the year, tops in all of Division III baseball.
MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week
Robert Chaney (York / Sr., P / St. Mary’s, Md.) earns his second conference weekly award of the season. Chaney improved to 6-1 on the season by earning a win in game two against Eastern to move the Spartans to the title round. In six-innings of work he scattered four hits and struck out 10 batters.
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Brady Madden (Misericordia / Jr., INF / Enola, Pa.) hit .571 (4-for-7) and slugged 1.143 with two triples, a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored in a MAC Freedom Semifinal Series sweep of Arcadia. He was 3-fo-4 with a triple and two runs scored in game one. He delivered a second triple with two RBIs in the nightcap.
MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Week
Anthony Pron (Stevens / So., P / Mullica Hill, N.J.) earns his second conference weekly award of the season. Pron earned the win in game one of the MAC Freedom Semifinal Series at DeSales. The sophomore came in the bottom of the eighth inning with one out, a runner on second and down one run. He forced an inning-ending double play. Then, after Stevens took the lead, Pron struck out a pair of batters and forced a fly-out to give the Ducks the win.
SOFTBALL (#MACsb)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Alyssa Harhigh (York / Jr., SS / Harrisburg, Pa.) hit .857 (6-for-7) with two runs scored, two doubles, a home run and nine RBIs in MAC Commonwealth Semifinal series sweep of Lebanon Valley. In the opener, Harhigh was 4-for-4 with two runs scored, seven RBIs, a double and a home run. The seven RBIs set a new career high for the junior. In game two, Harhigh went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double, a walk and a stolen base. She also had six putouts and three assists in the field at short. For the season,
MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week
Madison Walter (Messiah / Jr., P / Manheim, Pa.) repeats as conference pitcher of the week for her fourth of the season. Walter tossed 10.1 innings in a doubleheader sweep of top-seeded Alvernia. Walter allowed just four hits while striking our 13 batters as the Falcons advanced to the MAC Commonwealth Championship Series. Walter earned a pair of victories with a complete game-one-hit shutout in game one, and 3.1 shutout innings in relief in game two. She struck out 11 batters in her one-hit shutout.
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Meg Halloran (Stevens / Jr., CF / Oakland, N.J.) helped the Stevens win two out of three games against Arcadia in the MAC Freedom Semifinals to advance to the championship for the first time in program history. Halloran finished the series 4-for - with two doubles, two RBIs and two steals with a hit in every game. In the first contest, Halloran went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a sacrifice. She followed that by going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double in game two. Then in the winner-take-all contest, Halloran filled up the stat sheet with a perfect 2-for-2 effort with a double, an RBI, a run scored, a walk and a steal.
MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Week
Alexa McHugh (Misericordia / So., P / Pittston, Pa.) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. McHugh threw 10 shutout innings in the MAC Freedom Semifinal Series sweep of King’s. In a 3-0 complete-game shutout in game one, McHugh allowed three hits and struck out nine batters. Then she struck out four batters in three scoreless innings of game two.
MEN’S LACROSSE (#MAClax)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Ryan Kennedy (York / Gr., D / Arnold, Md.) earns his third conference weekly award of the season. Kennedy led York to the 2021 MAC Commonwealth Men’s Lacrosse Title with an 11-0 win over Stevenson. He was named the MAC Commonwealth Championship MVP. In the title game, Kennedy led a defense that caused 16 turnovers and forced 24 turnovers against the Mustangs. He had six caused turnovers and four ground balls in the game. Including the entire conference tournament, Kennedy anchored a defense that allowed just 13 goals over three games. He finished the week with seven caused turnovers and nine ground balls.
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Ryan Gebhardt (Stevens / Sr., Att. / Baldwinsville, N.Y.) earns his third conference weekly award of the season. Gebhardt led Stevens to the 2021 MAC Freedom Men’s Lacrosse Title with a 24-7 win over Misericordia. He was named the MAC Freedom Championship MVP. Gebhardt had a game-high with six goals and added one assist. He finished the conference tournament with 21 points on 15 goals and six assists.
MEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD (#MACtf)
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Brody Beiler (Messiah / Gr. / Selinsgrove, Pa.) was named the 2021 MAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Year for his performance at the conference championship. Beiler was a four-time All-MAC selection at the championship earning first-team honors in the 1,500-meter run and the 5,000-meter run. He earned second-team honors in the 10,000-meter run and third team honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Beiler won the 1,500m (3:58.69) and 5,000m (15:10.56) events. He took second in the 10,000m with a time of 31:33.91, and third place in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:52.09.
MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Alex Kristeller (Widener / Jr. / Kingston, Pa.) earns his fourth conference weekly award of the season. Kristeller led the Pride to the 2021 MAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field title. He was named the 2021 MAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Year for his performance at the conference championship. Kristeller earned All-MAC First Team honors in both the shot put and hammer throw, and third-team honors in the discus throw. He won the shot put (14.70m) and the hammer throw (63.03m), and he took third in the discus (40.27m).
WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD (#MACtf)
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Esther Seeland (Messiah / Jr. / State College, Pa.) earns her fifth conference weekly award of the season. Seeland led the Falcons to the 2021 MAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field title. She was named the 2021 MAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Year for her performance at the conference championship. Seeland was a four-time All-MAC selection, including first-team honors in the 800-meter run, 1,500-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay. She earned third-team honors in the 400-meter dash. Seeland won the 800m (2:13.91), 1,500m (4:40.19) and the 4x400m relay (3:58.20). She finished third in the 400m with a time of 57.35 seconds.
MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Susanna Pirollo (Alvernia / Sr. / Chester, Pa.) earns her second conference weekly award of the season. Pirollo was named the 2021 MAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Year for her performance as the conference championship. She was a three-time All-MAC selection, earning first-team honors in the heptathlon and the 400-meter hurdles. Pirollo earned second-team honors in the high jump. She won the heptathlon with a new MAC Championship record 4,558 points, and she won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.31. Pirollo took second in the high jump (1.56m). She also made the podium in the 4x400m relay (6
th) and javelin (7
th).
TENNIS (#MACtennis)
MAC Commonwealth Men’s Player of the Week
Ray McDermott (Stevenson / Gr. / Bel Air, Md.) repeats as conference player of the week for his third of the season. McDermott led the Mustangs to the 2021 MAC Commonwealth Men’s Tennis Title on Saturday with a 5-3 win over Messiah. He was named the MAC Commonwealth Championship MVP. McDermott sealed the title win with his 6-3, 7-6 (3) win at No. 1 singles against Andrew Bookman. He finished the conference with a combined 3-0 record.
MAC Freedom Men’s Player of the Week
Marc Feliu (Stevens / Jr., / Barcelona, Spain) led the Ducks to the 2021 MAC Freedom Men’s Tennis Title on Saturday with a 5-0 win over DeSales. Feliu was named the MAC Freedom Championship MVP. In the title match, Feliu won No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and combined with Aashi Kulakarni to win No. 1 doubles, 8-2. He finished the conference tournament with a 5-0 record.
MAC Commonwealth Women’s Player of the Week
Michaela Sentz (York / So. / Hanover, Pa.) led the Spartans to the 2021 MAC Commonwealth Women’s Tennis title on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Lebanon Valley. Sentz was named the MAC Commonwealth Championship MVP. With the match tied at 4-4, Sentz sealed the title for York with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles against Meredith Haas.
MAC Freedom Women’s Player of the Week
Sarah Malone (Wilkes / Sr. / Williamsport, Pa.) led the Colonels to the 2021 MAC Freedom Women’s Tennis tile on Saturday with a 5-3 win over Stevens. Malone was named the MAC Freedom Championship MVP. Malone won her singles match, 6-2, 6-1, to lead the Colonels over the Ducks after falling behind 2-1 after singles play. She finished the conference tournament with a 5-1 combined record.
