Falcons Top Pick in MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey Coaches’ Preseason Poll

Messiah received 64 points and first-place votes from all eight opposing coaches

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Field Hockey) –
The Messiah Falcons were selected as the favorite in the 2021 conference preseason poll conducted among the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MAC Commonwealth) field hockey coaches. The Falcons collected all eight first-place votes from opposing coaches for a total of 64 points.

The MAC Commonwealth has a different look in 2021. Arcadia made the move back to the MAC Freedom, while Eastern shifted to the MAC Commonwealth. York College, new to the conference in 2020-21, makes its fall-season debut. The conference will have nine teams for the first time since 2013.

It has been two years since official conference field hockey competition took place. In 2019, the Messiah Falcons captured their 13th-straight conference title, 26th overall, with a 4-1 victory over Lebanon Valley.
 
The Falcons advanced to the NCAA tournament second round where they fell to Johns Hopkins. Messiah finished the season with a 17-5 record and a No. 11 national ranking.
 
The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III preseason poll will be announced on August 31.
 
The 2021 season is set to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Conference play will begin on Saturday, Sept. 18 with an eight-game six-week schedule.
 
The 2021 MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey Championship is set for Nov. 1-6. The top-five seeds will battle for the conference title and the NCAA Division III Championship automatic qualifier (AQ).
