MAC Weekly Awards Announcement (Sept. 13, 2021)

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending Sept. 12, 2021. A total of 18 student-athletes were recognized for performances from Sept. 6-12, 2021.
 
During the fall season golf and tennis weekly awards will be announced on Tuesdays following any competition that occurs during the fall segment of their seasons.
 
 
CROSS COUNTRY (#MACxc)
 
MAC Men’s Runner of the Week
Logan Horst (Messiah / Jr. / Rising Sun, Md.) turned in a solid performance in the Dutchmen Cross Country Invitational(8K) on Saturday morning, finishing in second with a time of 26:16. Horst's time was a team-best mark, the second consecutive week in which Horst has paced the Falcons. With the second-place time, Horst helped Messiah to finish first out of 20 teams in the competition.
 
MAC Women’s Runner of the Week
Lauren Wick (Lebanon Valley / Sr. / Harrisburg, Pa.) crossed the line first at the 48th annual Dutchmen Invitational (5K) on Saturday. The senior took first out of 161 total runners and won the race by over 33 seconds with a time of 18:42.50 amongst several regionally-ranked schools.
 
 
FIELD HOCKEY (#MACfh)
 
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Hannah Huffman (York / Jr., F / Mechanicsburg, Pa.) netted a goal in a road win at Elizabethtown on Wednesday. On Saturday, Huffman scored both Spartan goals in the 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Bryn Mawr. Huffman scored in the third minute to give York an early lead. She then scored just under four minutes into the second half, giving York the 2-0 lead.
 
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Catie Brubaker (Messiah / Jr., GK / Lititz, Pa.) combined for a total over eight saves on 11 shots faced against a pair of top-5 teams last week. Brubaker made seven saves in a 2-1 overtime victory at No. 2 Franklin & Marshall. She then made a save against No. 5 Salisbury.
 
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Maddie Trocki (DeSales / So, F / Whitehall, Pa.) finished the week with seven points on three goals and an assist. Trocki was impressive in a 4-3 setback against No. 6 TCNJ. The sophomore scored all three of the Bulldogs goals on just five shots. She opened the week with an assist against Haverford.
 
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Gracie Fenner (Arcadia / Jr., GK / Eldersburg, Md.) made 25 saves on 54 shots faced for the Knights. In a double-overtime loss against No. 10 Kean, Fenner made 16 saves while facing 34 shots. The junior then made nine saves against Scranton to finish the week.

MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Evan Cope (Eastern / Fy., F / Jacksonville, Fla.) scored three times in a 3-0 week for the Eagles. Cope scored the lone tally in Eastern's 1-0 home win over Randolph-Macon on Friday. He added two goals in a 3-0 home win over William Paterson on Saturday.
 
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Ben Solsky (Alvernia / Jr., GK / Sinking Spring, Pa.) recorded back-to-back shutouts for Alvernia while recording seven saves on 20 shots. Solsky made three saves in a 1-0 win over Arcadia to begin the weekend. The junior then made four saves in a 1-0 win against Penn State – Berks.
 
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Dylan Sloan (Lycoming / So., M / Essex, Md.) recorded a game-winning assist and a game-winning goal for the Warriors. Sloan assisted on the game-winning goal against Susquehanna in the Battle of the Boot. The sophomore followed that with the lone goal on a penalty kick with 11 seconds remaining against Ithaca.
 
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Jake Varrato (Arcadia / Sr., GK / Allentown, Pa.) combined for 14 saves while allowing just two goals as the Knights went 2-1 on the week. The senior tallied a season-high seven saves versus Cairn University - including several pivotal stops to propel the Knights to a double-OT victory, 2-1. He then made five saves in a 1-0 loss against Alvernia, before earning his first shutout of the season at Albright with two saves.

MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Alyssa Carman (Widener / Fy., F / Swedesboro, N.J.) scored all four of the Pride’s goals this past week. In just her fourth career game, she scored her first hat trick as Widener downed Immaculata 3-0. She also added Widener’s lone goal in a road matchup against Rowan on Wednesday.
 
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
McKenna LeVan (Albright / Fy., GK / Pine Grove, Pa.) posted two shutouts and a 2-0-1 record for the Lions. She opened the week by making one save in the first 45 minutes of Albright's 6-0 win over Bryn Athyn. She followed that with her first collegiate shutout by making three saves in the Lions 3-0 win over Juniata. LeVan capped the week with nine saves in the Lions 0-0 tie against Penn State Berks.
 
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Michaela Fasolino (Misericordia / Sr., M / Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored a pair of game-winning goals in a 3-0 week, including an overtime goal against fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon. Fasolino gave the Cougars the lead early in the second half at Lebanon Valley, and then scored with six seconds left in overtime to beat Carnegie Mellon.
 
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Erica Blackburn (FDU-Florham / Jr., GK / Marlboro, N.J.) made her first start of the 2021 season on Saturday against William Paterson and posted a 90-minute shutout with five saves in the 1-0 victory. The shutout win for Blackburn was her first of 2021 and fourth of her career.
 
 
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL (#MACvb)
 
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Mackenzie Blevins (Stevenson / Sr., S / Elkton, Md.) totaled 77 assists (5.13 assists/set), 46 digs (3.07 digs/set) and 22 kills (1.47 kills/set) while hitting .211 in a 3-1 week. Blevins posted a triple-double with 19 assists, 18 digs and 17 kills in a 3-1 win over DeSales.
 
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Kayla Vaeth (Stevenson / Jr., L / Westminster, Md.) totaled 69 digs (4.93 digs/set) in a 3-1 week as part of a Mustang defense that held opponents to .096 hitting for the week. She posted 26 digs in a 3-1 win over DeSales and 16 digs in a 3-2 conference win over York.
 
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Parker Adkins (Stevens / Fy., OH / Euless, Texas) led the Ducks to a 4-0 week. In the midweek MAC Freedom opener against Arcadia, Adkins tallied a team-high eight kills while adding six digs. Adkins began the weekend with a 13-kill, eight-dig effort in a 3-1 win over Swarthmore while also adding three aces. Then in game two against Lebanon Valley, Adkins again had 13 kills and came just one dig shy of her first career double-double with nine digs. In the final contest of the weekend, Adkins set a new season-best with a .395 attack percentage after putting down 13 kills on just 26 swings. The first-year averaged 3.55 kills and 1.82 digs per set on the week.
 
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Elizabeth Chu (Stevens / Sr., L / Old Tappan, N.J.) was all over the court for the Ducks in a 4-0 week, registering three straight matches with at least 17 digs. Chu started the week off with a 20 dig performance in a sweep of Arcadia. In the second match of the weekend, Chu racked up 17 digs and nearly tallied a double-double with eight assists while adding a pair of aces. Then in the third match, Chu matched her career-high with 34 digs to go along with three assists and an ace in a 3-1 win over LVC. Chu totaled 21 digs, three assists and four aces in the final contest of the week.
