MAC Weekly Awards Announcement (March 13, 2023)

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending March 12, 2023. A total of 16 student-athletes were recognized for performances from March 6 - 12, 2023. 

During the spring season golf and tennis weekly awards will be announced on Tuesdays following any competition that occurs during the spring segment of their seasons.
 
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (#MACvb)
MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Phillip Bone (Stevens / Fy., OH / St. Louis, Mo.) totaled 15 kills on 28 swings with just five errors (.357 hitting percentage) across a pair of Stevens victories. In a conference win over Widener, Bone totaled seven kills with a pair of aces and then against nationally-ranked NYU, Bone had eight kills and 10 digs.
 
BASEBALL (#MACbaseball)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Zach Rogacki (Alvernia / So., C/OF / Jackson, N.J.) batted .524 in a 3-2 week for Alvernia that included two wins over Eastern to open MAC Commonwealth play. Rogacki finished the week 11 hits, eight runs scored, and seven RBIs with one homer. He did not strikeout once this week. He was also 5-for-6 on stolen base attempts. In a 15-2 win over North Central on Monday, Rogacki went 5-for-6 at the plate with five RBIs and a homer. Rogacki finished a doubleheader with the Eagles with three hits, three runs, and three stolen bases.
 
MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week
Shane Stossel (Lebanon Valley / Jr., P/1B / West Hanover, Pa.) struck out 11 hitters in six innings of a combined no-hitter in a 3-0 LVC victory over Heidelberg on Monday. The junior walked just one hitter and faced 21 batters in the first no-hitter in LVC history since 1956. The 11 strikeouts were one shy of his career-high and school record he had last season. The junior had a two-RBI double in the first inning to give the Dutchmen the lead. Stossel finished the week with a 1-1 record after striking out three hitters and allowing three earned runs on five hits to sixth-ranked Baldwin Wallace on Saturday. 

MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Anthony Bruno (Arcadia / So., DH / Horsham, Pa.) went 8-for-13, had 9 RBI's, scored four runs, had three doubles and a home run in a 3-1 week for Arcadia. In the week's opener against Penn State Harrisburg, Bruno went 3-for-4, including a three-run double in an Arcadia win. In the series opening game against Stevens, he went 1-for-3. His lone hit, a two-run double, tied the game for the Knights in the win. In the second game of the doubleheader, Bruno went 2-for-2 with a walk. He also hit a walk-off, two-run home run to win the game for Arcadia. In the series finale he once again tied the game for Arcadia as he finished the contest with two hits. His RBI single in the ninth inning for the Knights tied the game.

MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Week
David McCurry (Misericordia / Sr., P / Collegeville, Pa.) threw a seven-inning, five-hit shutout win against King's this week. The senior struck out seven batters and walked just one.


SOFTBALL (#MACsb)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Alexia Fitzgerald (Alvernia / Fy., OF / Middletown, Del.) batted a .579 to lead Alvernia to a 6-0 start to its 2023 season. Fitzgerald went 11-for-19 with four RBIs and seven runs scored. She also went 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts. Fitzgerald had four multi-hit games during Alvernia's Myrtle Beach trip, including a 3-for-3 day with a double and RBI in a win over PSU Altoona to open the season. 

MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week
Marissa Heuer (Stevenson / Gr., P / Severna Park, Md.) pitched her third career no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a five-inning victory over Notre Dame (Md.) in the 2023 season opener for the Mustangs. The graduate student allowed only one walk in the outing for a near-perfect game. She followed up the stellar performance with a five-inning relief effort to help the Mustangs force extra innings against Fitchburg State, recording another nine strikeouts. In her third outing of the season, Heuer pitched seven scoreless innings before allowing a run in the eighth, recording eight strikeouts along the way. In the young season, Heuer holds a 1-2 record and a saver with a minuscule .036 ERA in 19.1 innings and has totaled 28 strikeouts. She has allowed just two walks and 11 hits for a .169 opponent batting average.
 
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Victoria Agnoli (DeSales / Sr., SB / Seaford, N.Y.) helped DeSales post a 5-1 record last week batting .600 with 12 hits in 20 AB's, scoring nine runs and adding nine RBIs. Agnoli had a home run and three triples, while also stealing four bases during the six-game stretch.
 
MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Week
Alexa McHugh (Misericordia / Sr., P / Pittston, Pa.) earns her second conference weekly award this season. Mchugh went 2-0 with a save and a 1.50 earned-run average in three appearances for Misericordia. The senior struck out 18 batters and walked just one in 14 innings.
 
 
MEN'S LACROSSE (#MAClax)
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Lucas Roselli (Albright / Sr., A / Fort Washington, Pa.) led the Lions to a 1-1 week with a record breaking performance against Rosemont this past Wednesday. Roselli set the new program record with 13 points in a single game. In the 24-14 win over Rosemont Roselli scored 8 goals and had 5 assists all while firing 11 shots on goal and collecting 3 ground balls. Roselli's two game output this week sits at 12 goals scored, 5 assists, 17 points, 15 shots on goal and 6 ground balls.
 
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Luke Harned (Hood / Jr., SSM / Frederick, Md.) led a Hood defense that held opponents to 4.0 GAA in a 2-0 week. Had a career-high seven ground balls and three caused turnovers against Delaware Valley.
 
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Kevin Crowley (Stevens / Gr., A / Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) totaled seven goals and three assists over a pair of Stevens wins. Against Oneonta, Crowley had three goals and an assist and then in the Ducks' victory over No. 12 Wesleyan, Crowley had four goals with two assists. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida product also caused three turnovers and picked up five ground balls.
 
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Ryan Leahy (Stevens / Gr., GK / Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) earns his third conference weekly award this season. Leahy had a fantastic week in the cage for the Ducks. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native began his week with 10 saves in a win at SUNY Oneonta and then Leahy had a season-high 18 saves in the Ducks' 15-7 win over No. 12 Wesleyan
 
 
WOMEN'S LACROSSE (#MAClax)
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Haleigh Lackner (Alvernia / Jr., M / Harrisburg, Pa.) earns her second conference weekly award this season. Lackner finished a 2-0 week in Florida for Alvernia with 11 goals - including her 100th career goal - on 20 shots, and four assists. She also had 17 draw controls, seven ground balls, and six caused turnovers while not committing a turnover of her own. In a 12-11 win over Berry College (Receiving Votes), Lackner scored four goals and added two assists with six draw controls and six caused turnovers to help hand Berry (who was 8-0 entering the game) its first loss of the season. In an 18-16 win over Piedmont on Wednesday, Lackner scored seven goals, including her 100th career, and added two assists. She was 3-for-4 from the 8 meter and had 11 draw controls.
 
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Sydney Mentzer (York (Pa.) / Fr., MF / York, Pa.) led the Spartans defensive midfield effort in the 18-7 win at Christopher Newport. Mentzer notched a career-high five caused turnovers while she also had three draw controls and four ground balls. Mentzer also had a goal on a free position shot. For the year, she leads the team in caused turnovers, third in draw controls, second in ground balls, and second in goals.
 
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Michelle Torzilli (Misericordia / Jr., MF / East Northport, N.Y.) earns her second conference weekly award this season. Torzilli tied the school single-game record with nine goals in a 16-9 win at Montclair. The senior added two groundballs, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
