ANNVILLE, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending April 10, 2023. A total of 22 student-athletes were recognized for performances from April 3 – 10, 2023.
During the spring season golf and tennis weekly awards will be announced on Tuesdays following any competition that occurs during the spring segment of their seasons.
MEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD (#MACtf)
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Keith Chatmon (York / Sr. / Upper Marlboro, Md.) captured York's lone first-place finish at the Spartan Twilight meet on Wednesday. He won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.37. That is the team's top time this season in the event as he edged out Shippensburg's Jeovaughni Daniel by 0.06 seconds for the win.
MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Nathan Williams (Stevenson / Jr. / Mechanicsville, Md.) broke his own school record in the shot put with a top toss of 15.96, which gave him fourth overall at the York Twilight Invitational. Williams would also finish second in the hammer (59.34m) and discus (47.57m).
WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD (#MACtf)
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Laura Mathews (Stevens / Sr. / Denville, N.J.) repeats as conference athlete of the week. Mathews won a pair of events at the Vassar Invitational, setting a new school record in the process. She won both the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles, checking in at 12.13 seconds in the 100 and 14.45 seconds in the hurdles. Her time in the 100 set a new PR, set a new school record and moved the Denville, New Jersey native into 17th in Division III and to the top of the conference leaderboard. Mathews is ranked inside the top-20 in the country in three different events.
MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Brandy Varner (King’s / Fr. / Plymouth, Pa.) set a new program record in the discus and won the event with a toss of 37.99 meters which also marks the second-best toss in the MAC this season. She then led a trio of Monarchs in the shot put with a third-place finish with a personal best mark of 11.97 meters which also comes in as the second-best mark in the MAC this season.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL (#MACvb)
MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Connor Feulner (Stevens / Sr., MH / Orlando, Fla.) totaled 17 kills on 35 swings with just five errors as Stevens fell to Vassar in five sets before beating Arcadia in four sets to clinch the MAC regular season title. The senior middle also had 11 blocks (five against Vassar and six versus Arcadia). Feulner also totaled five aces and five digs.
MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Paul Binner (Wilkes / Jr., MH / Tunkhannock, Pa.) earns his third conference weekly award this season. Binner led Wilkes to a 3-1 victory over Eastern to close out the season in the Colonels only match of the week. The junior recorded a career high eight blocks (two solo, six assisted) and had four digs. Binner added 11 kills with a .333 hitting percentage and two service aces for 18.0 points. The totals pushed Binner to the single-season blocks record and single-season aces record at Wilkes with 87 and 43 respectively.
BASEBALL (#MACbaseball)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Evan Barks (Eastern / Jr., 3B / Elkton, Md.) had 10 hits in 11 plate appearances in a 2-1 week for the Eagles. The junior Third baseman had two doubles and a triple as a catalyst for the Eastern offense. He recorded a 4-for-4 day in a come-from-behind win over Rosemont midweek. He then went 6-for-7 with a pair of doubles in a doubleheader split at York. He scored five runs and drove in one for the Eagles.
MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week
Matt Reich (Stevenson / Gr., P / Wantagh, N.Y.) earned his third win of the season after giving only one hit against first-place Lebanon Valley on Saturday. The graduate student pitched all seven innings and struck out six batters while allowing only one run. Three of his strikeouts came when he struck out the side in the fifth inning, all swinging.
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Alex Madera (Arcadia / Sr., IF / Delran, N.J.) went 12-for-19 with a .632 batting average, had eight runs scored, five RBI's, five stolen bases, two walks, two doubles and a triple in five games played for the Knights. He had three hits in the first two games of the series against FDU-Florham and two hits in the doubleheader against Delaware Valley and the series finale against FDU-Florham. Madera is currently on a 12-game hitting streak, and an eight-game multi-hit streak.
MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Week
Hunter Curley (Arcadia / Jr., P / Collegeville, Pa.) picked up his second victory of the season as he pitched a complete game shutout against FDU-Florham as he only allowed three hits, while striking out six.
SOFTBALL (#MACsb)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Lindsey McCurdy (Lebanon Valley / Jr., OF / New Bloomfield, Pa.) was a tough out for the Mustangs with five hits in seven at-bats during a doubleheader sweep of Stevenson on Friday. The junior hit two doubles and a triple and knocked in four runs while scoring two. She gave the Dutchmen the lead in the first inning of a 4-2 game one victory with a double to right field. She then doubled to right center in the fifth to make it 4-2. McCurdy finished the game with two RBI doubles in three at-bats. She continued the hot streak in game two with three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored in an 8-0 six inning win. McCurdy knocked in two runs with a triple to right field in the fifth to make it 4-0. She also stole a base in the game.
MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week
Rebecca Gottleib (Hood / So., P/OF / Linthicum, Md.) threw a complete game, striking out 10 for the 2-1 win against Widener. She allowed just an unearned run on five hits and two walks. Her 10 strikeouts were one off of her career high and two away from tying the school's single-game record. The sophomore carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning.
MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Kylie Bryant (DeSales / Sr., C/3B / East Greenville, Pa.) helped DSU post a 3-1 record last week batting .583 with seven RBIs, four runs scored, and four RBIs. She had two hit 3-hit games, one each vs. Elizabethtown College and Muhlenberg College and added a double and home run among her seven hits.
MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Week
Lauren DeMarco (Wilkes / Fr., P / Merrick, N.Y.) went 2-0 in her two starts during the week while not allowing a run and only three hits in 10 total innings. She pitched a complete game two-hitter during the Colonels 1-0 victory over FDU-Florham as she struck out a career high 12 batters. Against Elizabethtown she started in the circle and pitched three scoreless innings allowing just one hit with four strikeouts in an 11-3 five-inning win for Wilkes. She did not allow a walk with 16 total strikeouts during the week and held the opponents to a n .094 batting average.

MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Will Harnick (York / Sr., A / Gibsonia, Pa.) led the Spartans to a 1-1 week against a pair of nationally ranked squads. Harnick tallied 10 points on eight goals and two assists in the two games. In the loss to #5 Gettysburg, Harnick led the way with three goals for the Spartans. He put five shots on goal as the Spartans dropped a 9-8 decision. In the win over #16 Denison, Harnick poured in five goals with two assists for seven points. He also grabbed two ground balls in the win. For the season, Harnick leads the Spartans with 48 points on 43 goals and five assists. He has six man-up goals for the Green and White. Harnick leads the Commonwealth in goals per game (3.91 gpg) and total goals (43).
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Nathan Gilbert (Eastern / Jr., D / West Grove, Pa.) caused five turnovers in a 23-13 win at Messiah. The junior defender scooped a pairof ground balls and did not commit a penalty while matched up with the top scorer for the Falcons.
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Owen Zimmerman (Lycoming / Sr., A / Cocalico, Pa.) scored seven goals for second straight game to lead Lycoming past Delaware Valley in team's only action of the week. The senior scored three goals during a six-goal run in first and second quarters that put Warriors in control during the 12-10 win, helping him finish with seven in the game to give him 140 career goals, as he passed Lycoming Athletics Hall of Famer Shawn Rosa '00 (135) for third on the all-time goals list. Zimmerman also moved into seventh in program history with 182 career points, posting 140 goals and 42 assists in his career.
MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Nathaniel Hudgins (Arcadia / Fr., GK / Easton, Pa.) helped the Knights to a win over Misericordia this week. The netminder tallied 12 saves and 12 ground balls in 60 minutes of net time.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE (#MAClax)
MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week
Sydney Zimmerman (Lebanon Valley / Sr., A / Swarthmore, Pa.) led the Dutchmen to a 1-1 week including an important 12-5 conference victory over Alvernia with 12 points on six goals and six assists. She started the week with four goals and three assists in the win over the Golden Wolves. The senior scored the first two goals of the game. She had seven shots in the game with five on goal while adding three ground balls. In a close 13-10 defeat to St. Mary's of Maryland, she scored twice and added three assists for five points on Senior Night at Arnold Field. The attack caused two turnovers and had two ground balls.
MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week
Bella Garabo (York / Sr., GK / Hillsdale, N.J.) wins her third-straight Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week award. The senior keeper led York to a 1-1 week with a win over Mary Washington and a loss to #6 Salisbury. Garabo went the distance in both games for the week as she played 120 minutes in goal. She allowed 17 goals for a 8.50 goals against average while she registered 26 saves in the two games, good for a save percentage of 60.5%. In the win over Mary Washington, Garabo recorded a season-high 14 saves as she limited the Eagles to just six goals, their second-lowest total of the year. Against the sixth-ranked Sea Gulls, Garabo notched 12 saves, her third straight game of double-digit saves. For the year, Garabo owns an 8.11 goals against average with 77 saves. Her save percentage is 52.4% as she owns a record of 7-3. She is second in the Commonwealth in goals against average and save percentage.
MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week
Riley Block (Lycoming / Fr., A/M / Hopatcong, N.J.) scored 11 goals and added two assists in 2-0 week for the Warriors. The freshman posted seven goals and an assist in 18-2 win over Delaware Valley and added four goals and an assist in a 13-10 win over 7-3 Manhattanville, including two fourth-quarter goals to put the game away. She also had two ground balls, two draw controls and caused three turnovers.

Zoe Stauffer (Lycoming / Jr., GK / Lititz, Pa.) allowed 6.0 goals per game in 2-0 week for the Warriors. She made seven stops in 18-2 win over Delaware Valley and seven stops in 13-10 win over Manhattanville.
