ANNVILLE, Pa. (Academic News) –
The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Executive Director Megan Morrison announced the 2022-23 Winter MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes on Thursday. A senior student-athlete from each of the nine winter sports (men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s indoor track & field and wrestling) were recognized for their strong academic and athletic prowess.
 
 
RYAN HOLLWEDEL
Men’s Basketball – Hood College
Ryan Hollwedel (Ellicott City, Md.) was a three-year starter for the Blazers. Hollwedel led Hood to three conference tournament appearances, including the 2023 MAC Commonwealth title, the first in program history. The Blazers made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2006-07 season. Hollwedel finished his career shooting nearly 40% from the field. The 2023 team captain ranked in the top-10 in 3-point field goal percentage in the conference this past season.

Hollwedel is majoring in business administration with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2023. He currently holds a 3.95 grade-point average (GPA). Hollwedel has been named to Hood’s President’s List (4.0 GPAs) six times. He has been named to the NABC Honors Court, CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-District and MAC Academic Honor Roll over the course of his career.
 
 
GABRIELLE BOGGS
Women’s Basketball – Albright College
Gabrielle Boggs (Northfield, N.J.) is a three-time MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year (2020, 2022, 2023) and was also named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2023. Boggs is a four-time All-MAC Commonwealth honoree, including first-team honors twice and second-team honors twice. She holds school records in single-game rebounds, career rebounds and career blocked shots. Boggs is just the second player in school history to have over 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is a two-time D3hoops.com All-Region selection, and she was recently named to the WBCA All-American Honorable Mention list.

Boggs is earning her Master of Science in Education after earning her undergraduate degree in early childhood education and family studies/sociology. She is set to graduate in the spring of 2023, and she currently holds a 4.0 GPA. Boggs is a five-time MAC Academic Honor Roll and Albright College Dean’s List recipient. She was named to the Women’s Basketball Academic All-MAC Team in 2022.
 
 
MICHAEL PATERSON-JONES
Men’s Ice Hockey – Wilkes University
Michael Paterson-Jones (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) is a two-time All-MAC honoree, earning first-team honors as a first year (2020) and honorable mention in 2021. Paterson-Jones is the school record holder in career saves (1,515) and career wins (40). He led the Colonels to MAC titles in 2020 and 2022. Wilkes has made the UCHC all four years of his career, including conference finals appearances in 2020 and 2022.
 
Paterson-Jones is majoring in management and currently working towards his MBA with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2023. He currently holds a 3.91 GPA. Paterson-Jones is a four-time MAC Academic Honor Roll and UCHC All-Academic Team honoree. He was named to the AHCA Academic All-Star team in 2020.
 
 
OLIVIA GILIDA
Women’s Ice Hockey – Alvernia University
Olivia Gilida (Littleton, Colo.) is a three-time All-MAC honoree, including first team honors in 2020 and second team honors in 2022 and 2023. Gilida earned both the 2020 MAC & UCHC Rookie of the Year awards. In 2020, she was the NCAA Division III statistical leader in power-play goals. Gilida led the Golden Wolves to the 2023 MAC title

Gilida is majoring in finance with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2023. She currently holds a 3.84 GPA. Gilida is a two-time Women’s Ice Hockey Academic All-MAC and a two-time UCHC All-Academic honoree.
 
 
ALI KOLENOVIC
Men’s Swimming – Stevens Institute of Technology
Ali Kolenovic (Ridgefield, N.J.) has led the Stevens Ducks to four-straight MAC titles, while also being a 20-time MAC individual champion (7 individual, 13 relay). Kolenovic holds the MAC overall and MAC Championship record times in the 200-yard backstroke, 400-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay events. He was named the 2022 David B. Eavenson Award recipient as the MAC Swimmer of the Year. In 2022, Kolenovic earned a bid to the NCAA Championship where he earned All-America honors in the 200-yard backstroke.

Kolenovic is majoring in computer science with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2023. He currently holds a 3.52 GPA. Kolenovic is a three-time Men’s Swimming Academic All-MAC selection and a four-time MAC Academic Honor Roll recipient.
 
 
KATHERINE BROWN
Women’s Swimming – Lycoming College
Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa.) is a three-time MAC individual Champion and a four-time All-MAC honoree. In 2022, Brown was named the David B. Eavenson Award recipient as the MAC Swimmer of the Year. She earned a bid to the 2022 NCAA Championship and currently holds the MAC Overall and Championship record in the 100-yard breaststroke. Brown also holds three school records in the 50-yard freestyle, 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes.
 
Brown is majoring in psychology with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2023. She currently holds a 3.51 GPA. Brown was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American and to the Academic All-MAC team in 2022. She was named CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-District.
 
 
CARL TYCE
Men’s Indoor Track & Field – DeSales University
Carl Tyce (Highland Falls, N.Y.) is a five-time MAC individual champion during the indoor season, including two golds in the 800-meter run, two golds in the distance medley relay and one gold in the 4x800-meter relay. Tyce earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 800-meter run in 2023.

Tyce is majoring in biology with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2023. He currently holds a 3.99 GPA. Tyce has earned several academic honors, including Academic All-MAC, CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-District and USTFCCCA All-Academic.

 
JULIA PENA
Women’s Indoor Track & Field – York College
Julia Pena (Highland Mills, N.Y.) is a three-time MAC individual champion during the indoor season, including two golds in the pole vault and one gold in the long jump. Pena qualified for the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championship and competed in the pole vault and 60-meter hurdles. She was a seven-time MAC weekly award recipient in 2023. Pena holds school records in the pole vault, long jump and 60-meter hurdles. She was named the 2023 MAC Field Athlete of the Year.

Pena is majoring in forensic chemistry with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2023. She currently holds a 3.98 GPA.  Pena is a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree and a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. She is a seven-time York College Dean’s List member.  
 
 
HUNTER GUTIERREZ
Wrestling – Stevens Institute of Technology
Hunter Gutierrez (Lacey Township, N.J.) has led the Ducks to three-straight MAC titles and three-straight NCAA regional titles. Gutierrez won the 149 lbs. MAC individual titles, and he finished MAC runner-up in 2022 (157 lbs.) and 2020 (133 lbs.). In 2023, he won the NCAA Southeast Regional Title and went on to finish the NCAA Championship as an all-American.

Gutierrez is majoring in business and technology with an expected graduation date in the spring of 2023. He currently holds a 3.97 GPA. Gutierrez is a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American.
