CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Field Hockey) – Senior
Tyra Wingle of the DeSales University field hockey team was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship as announced by the NCAA in late May.
The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually, 63 for men and 63 for women. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The one-time non-renewable scholarships of $10,000 each are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter, and spring). Each sports season, there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.
Kraus, a sport & exercise physiology major, was a four-year member of the field hockey team graduating this past spring with a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA.
She finished her career with numerous accolades that include being named the MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete for field hockey in 2022. Wingle was named to the FH Academic All-MAC Team twice, CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-District At-Large First-Team twice, and a CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Third-Team in 2022. She was named to the MAC Fall Academic Honor Roll four times, a Zag/FH/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction four times, and to the Zag FH/NFHCA National Academic Squad four times.
In addition, Wingle was named NFHCA All-Region twice including Second-Team in 2021 and First-Team in 2022. She earned All-ECAC First-Team honors in 2022, was named All-MAC Freedom three times including First-Team twice, and was the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Year in 2022. Wingle also earned the LVAIAW FH Outstanding Athlete of the Year award just last week.
She finished her career as DeSales' all-time leading goal scorer with 44 goals and is second all-time in points with 104. She tied the single-game record for goals in a game with four.
Wingle will be continuing her education at the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, FL studying to earn her doctorate in chiropractic.
Wingle becomes the eighth student-athlete, and first female student-athlete, in DeSales University history to earn an NCAA Postgraduate scholarship joining
