MAC Weekly Awards Announcement (December 16, 2024)

Nine student-athletes were recognized for performances from Dec. 9 – Dec. 15.

NEWTOWN, Pa. (Conference News) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has announced its conference weekly award recipients for the week ending December 15, 2024. A total of nine student-athletes were recognized for performances from Dec. 9, 2024 to Dec., 15, 2024.

MEN’S BASKETBALL (#MAChoops)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Janye Stanley (Alvernia / Fy., G / Harrisburg, Pa.) finished with a 17 point, 13 rebound double-double for Alvernia in an 81-69 win over Keystone in Alvernia’s only game of the week on Saturday. Stanley finished the afternoon shooting 7-for-10 overall and 2-for-2 on a pair of late free throws for Alvernia. Stanley also had two offensive and 11 defensive rebounds for his 13 rebound performance. He hit the double-double in just 28 minutes of game action.

MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Evin Timochenko (Lebanon Valley / Sr., F / West Lawn, Pa.) was nearly perfect from the floor while recording his fifth double-double of the year with 22 points and 17 rebounds in a hard-fought 83-69 defeat at undefeated Gwynedd Mercy in LVC's only game of the week. The senior was 11-13 from the floor for his 22 points, his second-most on the season. The forward grabbed 13 defensive rebounds and four offensive rebounds while blocking two shots. Timochenko had over 20 points and over 15 rebounds for the third time this year 

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (#MAChoops)
MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Mia Robbins (Widener / Jr., P / Voorhees, N.J.) and the Pride went on a 2-0 tear this week with a 2OT 70-66 win over Dickinson and a 67-48 win over PSU Brandywine. Robbins would continue her dominance with consecutive double-doubles. In the Dickinson game, Robbins registered 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Pride. In her 38 minutes she also had a block and a steal. On Saturday, the Voorhees, N.J. native put in 24 points and snagged 10 rebounds. Robbins would put a new career high three blocks and two steals up in her 31 minutes of play. Robbins currently leads the MAC Commonwealth in scoring and rebounds.

MAC Freedom Player of the Week
Shannon Tighe (FDU-Florham / So., F / Wayne, N.J.) accumulated a double-double in both games of 13pts and 12 rebounds against Bryn Athyn and 10 points and 10 rebounds against cross-town rival Drew. Tighe also collected four blocks against Bryn Athyn and a .556% field goal percentage at Drew. 

MEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD (#MACtf) 
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Ni’Male Greenwood (Eastern / So. / Philadelphia, Pa.) broke a pair of Eastern Indoor Track and Field records in his first meet of the season this past Saturday at the Susquehanna Early Season Multi and Invitational. The sophomore became the first Eastern runner to break the seven second mark in the 60 Meter Dash, posting a program record time of 6.97. It is the fastest time posted in the MAC so far this year and puts him just outside the National Top-20. Greenwood also broke his own record in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 22.61. 

MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Lawrence Day (Eastern / Fy. / Teaneck, N.J.) put forth a solid showing in his first meet of the season at the Susquehanna Early Season Multi and Invitational. The Teaneck, N.J. finished second in the High Jump, posting a height of 1.92 meters.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD (#MACtf) 
MAC Track Athlete of the Week
Isabel Vogel (Stevens / Jr. / Charlton, N.Y.) who is third on the all-time leaderboard at 600 meters, set a new personal best in the event on Friday. Vogel ran 1:44.04, knocking .05 seconds off her previous mark.

MAC Field Athlete of the Week
Savana Dodd (Eastern / So. / Gibbsboro, N.J.) had a great day in the field at the Susquehanna Early Season Multi and Invitational over the weekend. The sophomore broke her own program record in the Weight Throw with a distance of 14.84 meters, surpassing her throw of 14.38 meters at the Blue and White Invitational this past February. Dodd also posted a season-high throw of 11.59 meters in the Shot Put.

Wrestler of the Week
Austin Brass (Messiah / Jr. / Akron, Pa.) picked up a technical fall at 174 lbs. over Connor Powell of Johns Hopkins. Brass picked up an early takedown that was followed by a Powell escape. Action went back-and-forth before Brass was able to pick up a second takedown with 42 seconds remaining in the first round. Brass deferred his choice and Powell opted to start the second round down. Brass maintained control for much of the match before Powell escaped with 1:21 remaining. Brass picked up a takedown with 29 seconds remaining to go into the third round leading 9-2. In the final seconds of the third period, Brass earned a takedown and four nearfall points to go up 16-2 to claim the victory. With a riding time point, Brass increased his score to a 17-2 technical fall. In a pair of Falcons wins at McDaniel on Saturday, Brass picked up his second and third technical falls of the week, both occurring in the first period. In the opening dual versus Marymount University, Brass defeated Eddie Lewis via an 18-3 technical fall in 2:44, contributing to Messiah's 39-12 victory. In the dual versus McDaniel, Brass earned a 17-2 technical fall over Patrick Takeuchi in just 1:46. The Falcons defeated McDaniel 37-13.
