Nine student-athletes receive prestigious conference academic award

MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete History

NEWTOWN, Pa. (Academic News) - The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Executive Director Megan Morrison announced the 2023-24 Winter MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes on Friday. A senior student-athlete from each of the nine winter sports (men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s indoor track & field and wrestling) were recognized for their strong academic and athletic prowess.

ELIJAH EBERLY
Men's Basketball - DeSales University


Elijah Eberly (Elizabethtown, Pa.) is a two-time All-MAC Freedom First-Team selection while also earning second-team (2023) and third-team (2024) D3hoops.com all-region honors. Eberly was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) all-district second team in 2023 and 2024. In addition, Eberly was named to the City of Basketball Love (CoBL) all-area third-team in 2023 and named second-team ECAC in 2024. 

Eberly is an Accounting major and is expected to graduate in May of 2024. He holds a 3.75 grade-point-average (GPA). Eberly is a three time recipient of the MAC Winter Academic Honor Roll, two-time recipient of the CSC Academic All-Districtteam and the Academic All-MAC team. Eberly was also awarded NABC Honors Court and has been a reoccuring member of the Dean's List. 

MIKAELA REESE
Women's Basketball - DeSales University


Mikaela Reese (Souderton, Pa.) was named MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year (2021), MAC Defensive Player of the Year (2022), and Offensive Player of the Year (2024). Reese is a three-time All-MAC Freedom first-team selection and earned second-team honors her first year. She received D3hoops.com second-team honors (2022, 2023, 2024) and was most recently selected as D3hoops.com All-America fourth-team. She was named to the City of Basketball Love (CoBL) all-area second-team in 2023 and named first-team ECAC in 2024. Reese was named Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Honorable-Mention All-America for the 2024 season. 

Reese is an Early Childhood Education major and is expected to graduate May of 2024. She holds a 3.66 grade-point average (GPA). She is a three-time member of the MAC Winter Academic Honor Roll and a two-time member of the Academic All-MAC team. Reese has also been recognized as a two-time member of the CSC Academic All-District Team and has been named to the Dean's List multiple times. 

FRANK VITUCCI
Men's Ice Hockey - Stevenson University


Frank Vitucci (Yardley, Pa.) was named All-MAC second team for the 2021-22 and 2023-24 season. Vitucci was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll multiple times and was a recipient of the Academic All-MAC team for the 2021-22 season. He is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society. 

Vitucci is a Business Administration (Finance) major and is expected to graduate in May of 2024. He holds a 4.00 grade-point average (GPA). Vitucci is a recipient of multiple UCHC All-Academic Teams and was also named an All-American Scholar by the American Hockey Coaches Associaton (AHCA). 

JULIA BEAVEN
Women's Ice Hockey - Alvernia University


Julia Beaven (Seaforth, Ontario) is a two-time award winner of the MAC Defensive Player of the Year (2022, 2023), All-MAC first-team (2022, 2023), and All-MAC second team (2021,2024). Beaven was named to the All-UCHC team in 2021 and 2022. She recorded 2,806 career saves and 18 career shutouts. In addition, she is an active NCAA DIII career save leader. 

Beaven holds an accounting degree and is pursuing her MBA. She held a 3.95 grade-point average (GPA) during her undergrad and maintains a 4.0 GPA in her MBA studies. She is a three-time recipient of the Academic All-MAC team and earned a spot on the MAC Academic Honor Roll multiple times. 

NATHAN WILLIAMS
Men's Indoor Track and Field - Stevenson University


In his 2023-24 campaign, Nathan Williams (Mechanicsville, Md.) was named NCAA DIII Indoor second-team All-American and was the weight throw champion at the MAC track and field championships. He was an individual qualifier in the 2023-24 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Williams holds school records in several events including shotput, discus, hammer throw, and weight throw. 

Williams is an accounting major and is expected to graduate in May of 2024. He holds a 3.84 grade-point average (GPA). Williams is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society and was named to the 2023 All-MAC Academic team. He is part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, serves as the Senator of the Accounting Association and also serves as his team captain. 

LAURA MATHEWS
Women's Indoor Track and Field - Stevens Institute of Technology


Laura Mathews (Denville, N.J) is a two-time MAC Indoor Athlete of the Year and was named Rookie of the Year in 2020. She is a 15x All-Conference athlete and a six-time All-American. Mathews was named USTFCCCA Metro Region Athlete of the Year twice in her career. 

Mathews is an Engineering Management major and is set to graduate in May of 2024. She holds a 3.857 grade-point average (GPA) and is also a member of the outdoor track and field team. Mathews, an NCAA Woman of the Year finalist, was awarded the Donald N. Merino Award for Academic Excellence and the Winner of the Stevens Ansary Competition. She is a three-time Academic All-MAC and MAC Academic Honor Roll recipient.

COLLIN DRAMINSKI
Men's Swimming - York College of Pennsylvania


Collin Draminski (Ellicott City, Md.) finished first and second in the 50 free in the 2023 and 2024 MAC Swimming Championships, respectively. In 2024, he was part of the winning 200 free relay and 400 free relay. Draminski serves on the York College SAAC. 

Draminski is a Nursing major and holds a 3.9 grade-point average (GPA). He is expected to graduate in May of 2024. In addition to his athletic accolades, Draminski was named to the 2024 CSC Academic All-District team and is a two-time All-MAC Honoree. 

LAUREL GINGRICH
Women's Swimming - Albright College


Laurel Gingrich (Gildford, N.H.) was named MAC Swimmer of the Year in 2022-23 and was named MAC Swimmer of the Week twice. In her career, Gingrich has earned four gold finishes, six silver finishes, and two bronze finishes. She is also a member of the Field Hockey team and the Outdoor Track and Field team. 

Gingrich is a Fashion and Communication major and is expected to graduate in May of 2024. She holds a 4.00 grade-point average (GPA). Gingrich is a four-time Academic All-MAC Honoree and landed a spot on the All-MAC Honor Roll four times. 

STEFAN MAJOR
Wrestling - Stevens Institute of Technology 


Stefan Major (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) is a three time MAC Champion, a three time regional champion, and a three time All-American. During the 2022-23 season, Major placed fifth at the NCAA DIII Championships.

Major is an Engineering Management major and is expected to graduate in May of 2024. He holds a 3.662 grade-point average (GPA). Major is a three time NWCA Scholar All-American and was named to the Academic All-MAC team and the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
