OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 2 Stevenson men's soccer team defeated No. 3 York (Pa.), 2-1, in overtime in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals on Wednesday evening.
Gianfranco Vitella opened the scoring in the 19th minute, but the Spartans answered in the 36th to send the match into halftime tied at 1-1.
After a scoreless second half, the match went to overtime where Ellis Amo converted a penalty kick in the 98th minute to lift the Mustangs to the MAC Commonwealth Championship.
Stevenson held a narrow edge in shots, outshooting York 18-16 overall and 9-8 on goal. Vitella and Amo each finished with two points, while Nolen Olson-Warwick tallied seven saves in the win.
The Mustangs advance to face top-seeded Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. in Grantham, Pa.
